🇷🇺 Call sign Matryona, a female medic serving in the assault corps of the Skiff Battalion (BARS-35), described her experience surviving an attack by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone.
💬 "I was evacuating the wounded from the front lines in this vehicle when a kamikaze drone struck us as we approached the hospital. I got shrapnel in my eye and suffered a concussion… It was hard to get myself together at first... But then we kept moving, taking the fighters to the hospital for further evacuation," the medic said.
The Ukrainian kamikaze drone took the life of one of the soldiers and inflicted severe injuries on another three. Even after sustaining injuries herself, Matryona displayed remarkable courage by providing aid to her comrades in need.

🇮🇱 Israel reconsidered its original plan regarding a ground assault targeting Hamas in Gaza after receiving advice from American officials, including Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin, a US report has claimed. The initial blueprint for an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza to go after Hamas ostensibly left US officials “alarmed.”
Subsequent brainstorming between the two allies prompted Israel to refrain from a full-scale invasion of the enclave in the wake of Hamas’ attack on October 7, US sources were cited as saying.
As a result of “war planning” between Israel and top US officials, the IDF was prompted to embark upon “more limited ground incursions” into Gaza, in line with a “phased” approach, as per the report.

🇨🇳🇪🇺 Chinese EVs’ foray into European market has unexpected knock-on effects
China’s highly cost-competitive electric vehicles are rapidly capturing market share in Europe, leaving local producers in the dust and scrambling to demand subsidies or some kind of trade restrictions. But the cars themselves are only part of the problem, with European metal makers making aluminum for use in the vehicles also taking a hit. Find out more here.

🇺🇸 The number of illegal border crossers reached a whopping 10 million during Joe Biden's presidential tenure, a US conservative website has claimed, citing official US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports and "gotaway" data.
Meanwhile, CBP data, released on Friday, indicated that US immigration enforcement released over 900,000 migrants into the country in fiscal 2023 alone. The border issue is creating additional pressure on Biden's presidential campaign, which has seen his approval rating slide to its lowest point. Joe's overall approval has fallen to 37%, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The airport in the southwestern Russian city of Makhachkala was shuttered on Sunday night after a crowd of protesters swarmed the tarmac, Russia's federal aviation agency Rosaviatsiya said.
The Russian Interior Ministry's regional office said a criminal probe had been launched into the incident on accusations of rioting. Those inciting riots and inciting ethnic hatred will be held criminally liable, the ministry added. The Dagestan authorities said they would limit traffic on the highway leading to the airport.
Police promptly took the situation under control, the Dagestan government said on social media shortly after the security breach was reported. All trespassers were removed from the runway.

US rejection of geopolitical realism makes world even more dangerous than it was during Cuban Crisis
This week marked another anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the October 1962 standoff between the USSR and the USA which nearly triggered a global nuclear war. Why are the tensions between Moscow and Washington in today’s world potentially even more dangerous than they were even the dark days of October 1962?

Retired US General Robert Adams sounded a note of pessimism early Sunday when asked by US media for his thoughts on Israel’s ongoing military action in the besieged Gaza Strip.
“I think it’s going to be what I would consider nearly impossible, to destroy Hamas, to eliminate their capability to do harm to Israel and Israeli people, while simultaneously protecting what some people have estimated as to be a million Palestinians who are in harm’s way and they can’t get out of harm’s way,” said Adams in an interview on US television.
Adams also noted the difficulty of Israel’s objective given the complex urban terrain of Gaza.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did not ask US President Joe Biden to facilitate the release of Australian journalist and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during his visit to Washington, saying the issue does not necessarily require the president's intervention.
"Joe Biden doesn't interfere with the Department of Justice — Joe Biden is a president who understands the separation of the judicial system from the political system. That's an important principle," Albanese told Australian media.
The prime minister said it was time to bring the matter to a conclusion, but "not necessarily" through a presidential intervention, according to the report.

🇺🇸 The House of Representatives is considering separating emergency military funding for Israel from that for Ukraine and US border security, House Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul said.
A Republican-sponsored bill that aims at decoupling aid to Israel from other issues is slated to hit the floor this week. If passed, it will see the US funnel $14.3 billion to Israel and unlock supplies of equipment from US stockpiles.
"What we want to do is — because the need is so urgent now in Israel — is to start with Israel first as a separate measure, and we will have that on the House floor this week," McCaul told in a televised interview.
