“Russia has adopted, from what I've seen, a very balanced position. They condemned the Hamas terrorist attack, the terrible suffering of the Israelis in the attack, but they've also condemned the Israeli actions and the terrible loss of life that they’ve caused. And they're trying to play it neutral, which is what the US – the US has failed at diplomacy over the years in that conflict by serving as Israel's lawyer and pumping all that weaponry into the Israelis... So, I think Russia and China are stepping in. And we see this elsewhere in the Middle East,” Jeremy Kuzmarov, managing editor of CovertAction Magazine and author, told Sputnik.

🇺🇸 Larry Johnson, a retired CIA intelligence officer and US State Department official, told Sputnik that Putin had “correctly framed the issue as one of growing desperation on the part of the United States to try to stir up trouble in as many places around the world as possible.”

“It’s sort of like the drowning man in the ocean who’s frantically, without a life jacket, trying to grab ahold of something - anything - to stay afloat,’ Johnson said. “And in this kind of desperation there is lashing out, creating dangers for others.”

Johnson said Putin was “exactly correct in noting the need to ensure that nobody in the Russian Federation is attacked because of their religion or their ethnic background, that all will be treated equally.”

🇵🇱 Poland will have its own satellite group worth 85 billion euros ($90 billion) by 2027, the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology said on Monday.

"An agreement came into force today, under which Poland will receive its own surveillance satellite group. Poland will gain access to high-resolution Earth observation data, and our companies will gain knowledge in the production and integration of satellite systems," the statement read.

It is planned to build and launch into orbit at least four satellites, including three optoelectronic ones and one radar, the ministry added.

Poland currently has no satellites of its own, while the demand for high-resolution space data in the country is extremely high, the minister added.

🇺🇸 US President Joe Biden signed an executive order establishing safety and security guidelines for the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the White House said on Monday.

“The Executive Order establishes new standards for AI safety and security, protects Americans’ privacy, advances equity and civil rights, stands up for consumers and workers, promotes innovation and competition, advances American leadership around the world, and more,” the White House said in a statement.

The order requires that the “most powerful” AI systems share safety tests results and other critical information with the US government, the statement said.

🇻🇪 The Electoral Chamber of Venezuela's Supreme Court on Monday ruled invalid the results of opposition primaries, in which most votes were garnered by former lawmaker and politician Maria Corina Machado under effective bar from political activities.

"The Chamber has recognized ... the request for preventive constitutional protection as appropriate, and thus all the effects of the various phases of the electoral process, which was organized by the National Commission of Primaries, are thereby suspended," the ruling read.

The court notified Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab about the suspected violation of the country's constitution as well as ordinary electoral crimes.

🇺🇸 The top-line budget for the US Military Intelligence Program totaled $27.9 billion in 2023, the US Department of Defense announced on Monday.

"The Department of Defense released today the Military Intelligence Program appropriated top line budget for FY 2023. The total MIP budget was $27.9 billion and is aligned to support the National Defense Strategy," the Pentagon said in a press release.

The top line budget is the only figure and detail that the department deemed safe to declassify and publish with respect to the Military Intelligence Program, the release clarified.

🇺🇸 Federal Judge Alia Moses on Monday issued a temporary restraining order that prevents the Biden administration and Border Patrol agents from dismantling the razor wire installed by Texas state officials, court documents reveal.

"The temporary restraining order shall last until it expires on November 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m., unless a further order of this Court extends the time. For purposes of this Order, the word 'property' refers to concertina wire that the Plaintiff installed at the United States- Mexico border in Eagle Pass, Texas prior to this order," Moses said in the order.

Furthermore, until November 13, 2023, the Defendants are under a legal injunction, preventing them from various actions concerning the property. These actions include removing the property from its current location, except for emergency medical aid, the order said.

US troops are directly involved in fighting in Gaza, says Salman al-Harfi, Palestine’s former ambassador to France.

“They not only support [Israel], but are also participating in the war against the Palestinian people. The United States is sending military personnel to the area. They are involved in military operations on the ground in Gaza,” Harfi told Sputnik.

The veteran diplomat did not elaborate on the details of the US deployment.

“We have absolutely no intention nor do we have any plans to send combat troops into Israel, or Gaza, period,” Vice President Harris told Americans in an interview airing on 60 Minutes Sunday.

However, a growing number of reports have alluded to the suspected presence of US troops in the conflict zone.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has become robotic after feeling betrayed by his Western backers, Time magazine reported, citing members of Zelensky’s inner circle.

“Now he walks in, gets the updates, gives the orders, and walks out,” one of the sources said, with a second source adding that he feels betrayed by his Western allies.

“He deludes himself … We are not winning. But try telling him that,” the source reportedly said.

United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain announced that the union is officially suspending the strike against the “Big Three” automakers, General Motors (GM), Stellantis, and Ford, after a reaching a tentative agreement with GM on Monday.

“Now, that we have a groundbreaking tentative agreement at GM, we are officially suspending our stand-up strike against each of the big three. You'll be receiving information in the near future, about when and how to return to work,” Fain said in a video address to auto workers on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, US media reported that UAW reached a tentative agreement with GM to conclude collective bargaining negotiations, following a workers’ strike that included tens of thousands of people.

Recent research has revealed that certain human cells have an unconventional source of sustenance: bacteriophages, viruses that target bacteria and are widely present in the human body. Scientists previously believed that bacteriophages didn't interact with mammalian cells, but this notion has been proven false.

A study published in PLOS Biology showed that mammalian cells can internalize bacteriophages and utilize them to promote cellular growth and survival. During an experiment involving cancer cells exposed to bacteriophage T4, typically devouring E. coli bacteria, the cells displayed increased growth and division, indicating that they may be using bacteriophages as a food source.

Bacteriophages are well-known bacteria predators and have been used as antibiotic alternatives, particularly in the Soviet Union. Western medicine only recently realizing their potential in controlling bacterial infections, not only in humans but also in various materials, including food.

Russia’s intelligence service have found out that the Khimprom organized crime group is behind a recent attempt to set a house of Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy on fire in Spain, a Russian security source told Sputnik

Shariy’s house in Spain’s Tarragona was hit with Molotov cocktails on October 24. The blogger has said that he received threats before the incident. Shariy is a founder of a political party that is banned in Ukraine.

Anatoly Shariy left Ukraine in 2012 and has since lived in various EU countries, most recently in Spain.
