What we know of the Israeli attack on the Jabalya refugee camp:

▪️ At least 50 people were killed and 150 others wounded after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian territory's health ministry.

▪️ The administration of a nearby hospital, however, argued that there are about 400 casualties, including 120 dead.

▪️ Israel insisted that the strike killed a top Hamas commander responsible for the militant group's Oct. 7 attack on the Jewish state. Hamas denied the claim.

🇺🇸 White House spokesman John Kirby said the US recognizes that thousands of civilians have been killed and injured in the IDF's bombardment of Gaza. “We observe that, and we’re not accepting of any single civilian death,” Kirby said, claiming that Israel is trying to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza.

🇺🇳 UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, for his part, tweeted that he was "deeply alarmed by the intensification of the conflict between Israel and Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in Gaza."

🇺🇳 This came after Craig Mokhiber, the director of the New York office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, resigned on Tuesday, calling the killing of Palestinians "a textbook case of genocide."

There is no schedule for the operation of the Rafah checkpoint on the border with Egypt, and it is not clear whether an agreement has been concluded or whether negotiations are still ongoing.
