IDF killing journalists reporting on Gaza war, Israeli media exec said

The fighting in Gaza has left tens of thousands of Palestinians dead or injured, media workers among them. Israeli journalist and political activist Haggai Matar, executive director of +972 Magazine, said his colleagues there had paid with their lives for "doing an incredible job."

Following a month-long bombing campaign against the besieged Palestinian enclave, home to 2.3 million people, the Israeli Defense Forces have surrounded Gaza City and are assaulting government buildings and hospitals.

More than 11,000 Palestinians have been killed so far and almost 30,000 wounded, according to the Palestinian Authority's health ministry based in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Among them are dozens of journalists.

Israel possesses nuclear weapons, but hides this fact, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Friday.

🇺🇸🇵🇭 The US expanded its partnership with a key Southeast Asian ally, striking a new agreement on nuclear power with Manila.

The pact on reintroducing nuclear power to the Philippines was signed in San Francisco on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit by Philippine Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, with president Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in attendance.

Blinken said the nuclear plants would help Manila dramatically cut the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% by 2030 and would help the island nation meet its expanding energy needs, which are expected to quadruple by 2040.

🇵🇸🇮🇱 Israeli and Hamas officials are in the middle of negotiations in Qatar with support from the United States, US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh said citing sources.

"Talks between the Hamas leadership and Israel, with support from the United States, are now going on in Qatar," Hersh said in his column published on Substack on Friday. "The American team includes CIA Director William Burns, President [Joe] Biden’s most experienced foreign policy aide."

According to Hersh, a tentative agreement was reached days ago between Israel and Hamas.

Under the tentative agreement, Hamas agreed to release 50 women and elderly hostages in return for the release of hundreds of women and teenage girls of Hamas families who are now in Israeli jails, Hersh added.

❗️ Netanyahu rejected the US-brokered hostage swap deal with Hamas, which included the release of 71 people and a 5-day cessation of hostilities, American journalist Seymour Hersh reported

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, who leads Moscow's delegation to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, told reporters he was greeted by US President Joe Biden at the protocol event on the sidelines of the leaders' summit and Russian officials were greeted with dignity.

"Yesterday there was a protocol event and, in accordance with protocol, we were received, and I was greeted by President Biden and the First Lady, greeted each other like polite people," Overchuk said.

Overchuk said the delegation was received in accordance with protocol and with dignity.

The delegation chief added that their concerns were taken into consideration in APEC's final statement, which does not contain any "toxic" political issues. "This is a calm working document that outlines the main economic problems," Overchuk said.

❗️ The Israeli military has given Gaza's Al-Shifa hospital one hour to evacuate, Al Jazeera reports. Earlier, the Israeli army announced the discovery of a Hamas command center on the hospital grounds. The hospital's chief physician said there were no Hamas fighters among the patients or those sheltering inside the hospital.
