North Korea’s homegrown spy technology in orbit will probably be a "positive development for the region", Russia's scholar of Korean studies, Andrei Lankov, told Sputnik.

The successful launch by Pyongyang of the reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1, announced on Tuesday, was met with a predictable degree of alarm from South Korea, Japan, and the US.

However, Lankov suggested that the appearance of Pyongyang’s intelligence satellites in orbit will render the situation on the Korean Peninsula “more stable”.

“The United States has lost all credibility now as a mediator, and nobody in the Arab world at the current moment sees the United States as a mediator. It is part of this war with Israel against the Arab people. And because of the shift of balance of power to happen, especially after the Ukraine war, the regional powers have become emboldened, countries are now challenging the United States. Switzerland approved on Wednesday the export of 25 tanks back to Germany after Berlin gave assurances that it would not break Swiss military neutrality laws by re-exporting them to Ukraine.

"Germany has undertaken not to send the tanks to Ukraine and given assurances that they will remain either in Germany, with NATO, or with its EU partners," the Swiss Federal Council said.

The Belarusian Army has taken delivery of a new batch of upgraded Polonez-M multiple-launch rocket systems.
The MLRS uses 301 mm caliber rockets, has a range of up to 300 km, and is nearly unstoppable thanks to a blazing-fast speed of up to 700 meters per second at angles up to 80 degrees in its terminal flight stage. The system can fire off a salvo of eight rockets in less than 50 seconds flat, with its high-explosive/high-explosive fragmentation warheads separating from their spent rocket engines, further reducing the enemy’s ability to ID or intercept them.

Each Polonez-M battery consists of two launchers, two transport-loaders and a mobile control module, and the system is based on Belarusian-made heavy-duty trucks which are also used by the Chinese and Russian militaries.

The system’s range, capabilities and firepower have been compared to America’s High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and even the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), with some analysts saying the Belarusian system is “even more accurate and modern.

The bridge over Niagara Falls at the US-Canada border has been closed after a car incident at a checkpoint, ABC News reports. According to the channel, there was an explosion.

The explosion killed two people in the car and a border guard was injured, Fox News reports.

The FBI is investigating the explosion as an attempted terrorist attack.
