Can Ukraine's anticipated F-16s withstand S-400's firepower?

The forthcoming F-16 fighters that Ukraine is set to get from the West will be targeted and destroyed by the formidable 40N6 long-range missiles of the advanced S-400 air defense system deployed in the special military operation zone.

According to the agency's source, the 40N6 missile is already being actively used in the special military operation zone. Combined with the A-50U long-range radar reconnaissance aircraft, these missiles can engage targets over the horizon, including those maneuvering at high speed and low altitude.

It was noted that the S-400 would be able to intercept the aforementioned Western fighter jets as soon as they take off and gain altitude when deployed, making the 40N6 missile one of the main tools to counter F-16s.

Meanwhile, Sputnik turned to experts to find out the unique features of these missiles and what other means can be used to shoot down the expected F-16s.

🪖 Ukraine repurposes tanks for defense as counteroffensive crumbles

The Ukrainian military’s counteroffensive has shifted gears, literally. After failing to break through Russian positions using NATO’s "wunderwaffen" tanks during its summer offensive, Kiev has begun turning them into defensive turrets and artillery to target Russian troops and positions.

“Now, Ukraine is moving to so-called positional defense – they’ve announced it,” says retired Russian Army colonel and veteran military analyst Viktor Litovkin.

“But this does not change anything on the battlefield. They have no one and nothing left to fight with, so the morale of the Ukrainian army is very low. They surrender as entire units, if they can manage to avoid being shot in the back.”

The use of tanks for defense “will not help Ukraine in any way in military operations against Russia,” Litovkin emphasized.

🇺🇸 US House passes resolution against Biden's student loan payment plan

House lawmakers passed the resolution, which condemns and blocks the enforcement of the Biden administration’s Savings on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan, in a vote of 210-189.

The SAVE plan was unveiled after the US Supreme Court struck down the Biden administration’s initial student debt relief plan back in June. The plan alters the Education Department’s Income-Driven Repayment program and halves the loaners' monthly payment from 10% to 5% of the total income while also increasing exempted income.

"President Biden is once again attempting to circumvent the rule of law and leave hardworking Americans who never went to college with a $559 billion bill for another of his radical Far Left student loan schemes," the House Republicans' official statement reads.

🇺🇸 US not in position to promise aid to Ukraine - Kirby

The United States is unable to promise Ukraine that any additional funding is going to be provided to them amid Congress' failure to approve President Joe Biden's supplemental bill, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters on Thursday.

"We are not in a position to make that promise to Ukraine given where things are on the [Capitol] Hill," Kirby said, when asked whether the US can offer any assurances that more funding is coming Ukraine's way.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on Thursday that he has never been more worried about a terrorist attack against the United States than he is at present.

"The number of people that want to punish us for helping Israel is through the roof," Graham stressed.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Thursday underscored the importance of maintaining a dialogue between Bratislava and Moscow, thereby refusing to follow the Western trend of pretending that "Russia does not exist."

Slovakia will adhere to its own interests in international politics, he added.

Fico also stated that sanctions against Russia did not work, but it was a "taboo topic" in the EU's highest bodies.

"If you try to raise it and suggest that they [the sanctions] do not [work], you will be told you are politically incorrect, although it is the truth. But you are not allowed to say that truth," the official stressed.

The prime minister reaffirmed his statement made in October that Slovakia would not support sanctions against Russia's civilian nuclear energy industry as they could significantly harm the operations of Slovak nuclear power plants and their nuclear fuel supplies.

US and Ukrainian officials agreed during a series of meetings over the past two months that the Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russia had failed and reached a stalemate, the media reported on Thursday, citing unnamed US officials.

During the meetings, the officials identified a range of problems facing the Ukrainian military in its confrontation with Russia, including low ammunition stocks, poor mobilization results and a growing rift between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Commander-in-chief Valery Zaluzhny, the report said.

Ukrainian troops shelled DPR territory 19 times in 24 hours

The Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was shelled by Ukrainian forces 19 times over the past day, the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of issues related to Ukraine's war crimes said in a statement.

According to the office, a boy was killed and two more civilians were wounded.

The DPR said that Ukraine fired 82 rounds of various ammunition. In total, the Kiev regime launched 39 strikes in the previous day.
