Finland is unwilling to discuss with Russia alleged threats to the country's security from the Russian side of the border between the two countries and is avoiding direct dialogue between border services, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik.

"Helsinki is stubbornly refusing to discuss with us the alleged threats to Finnish security emanating from the Russian side of the border … The key to overcoming the current unhealthy situation on the border is direct and constructive dialogue between the border services of the two countries, which the Finnish authorities are avoiding," Zakharova said.

In December 2023, Finland completely closed its border with Russia, citing an influx of undocumented migrants from the Middle East and North Africa seeking to cross into the European Union via Russian territory.

The Finnish position is politicized and "nothing more than the erection of new dividing lines on the European continent," she added.

US’ stated objectives in the Middle East are "unachievable" while aid flows to Israel, said Beirut-based journalist Esteban Carrillo, adding that “there is a military objective, but it's so broad.”

“It's so unachievable, honestly, because they say, 'okay, we want the attacks to stop,' you know, what is the way to get the attacks to stop? It's to stop sending weapons to Israel,” said Carrillo. “It's to get Israel to stop killing people in Gaza. It's as clear as that,” the journalist clarified Tuesday on Sputnik’s Fault Lines program.

Carrillo criticized US arguments that the Iranian government is orchestrating strikes on American troops, arguing that militants in the region “are acting independently towards a common cause because the Palestinian issue is a common cause across the Arab world, including Iran.” The treatment of Palestinians was among the founding principles of Iran’s 1959 revolution that ushered in the country’s modern-day political system.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele made headlines across the world recently when he sailed to reelection with 85% of the vote. Journalist Esteban Carrillo joined Sputnik’s Fault Lines program Tuesday to describe the popular president’s success in combating violence in the Central American country.

“It was security,” said Carrillo, explaining Bukele’s raids that took 75,000 suspected gangsters off the streets. “It's really as simple as that. He was able to get control over El Salvador, a historically violent country, by doing what? Mass arrests… He's building these massive, massive prisons.”

'Killer' of US Barrett anti-materiel sniper rifle to be used in Russian special op zone

Russia's brand-new MTs-572 anti-materiel sniper rifle will be used by servicemen in the special military operation zone "in the near future," a spokesperson for the High-Precision Complexes company (part of the state arms manufacturer Rostec) told reporters.

The MTs-572 is touted as a 'killer' of the semi-automatic anti-materiel rifles made by the US company Barrett Firearms. The term anti-materiel refers to the rifles, which are chambered in significantly larger calibers than conventional rifles and are used to destroy military equipment such as unarmored or lightly armored vehicles.

Previous comparative tests have shown that the MTs-572, which was first introduced last year, is at least four times more accurate than the Barrett M82.
