🥺 US journalist Danny Fenster has been sentenced to 11 years in prison with hard labour by a court in military-ruled Myanmar after he was found guilty of a series of charges, including incitement.

The charges were based on allegations that he was working for the banned media outlet, Myanmar Now.

Danny resigned from Myanmar Now in July 2020.

The trial of Danny Fenster took place behind closed doors, literally, inside Insein prison, where he and many of those detained since the February coup are being held.

He is the only foreign journalist to be convicted of a serious offence since the military junta seized power in February, and his detention has been widely condemned by rights groups, press freedom advocates and the US government.
😬 US President Joe Biden‘s mammoth social welfare and climate change bill is poised to raise taxes on the middle class, while giving lucrative breaks for the super-wealthy, according to a new study.

Nearly 30% of lower- and middle-class households would pay more in taxes starting next year if the bill became law, according to the study by the liberal-leaning Tax Policy Center, a project of the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute. The report is an in-depth analysis of the tax increases that House Democrats want to see included in the multitrillion-dollar legislation.

Although the tax increases start small, they grow massively by the end of the decade.
