📹 Answering a question on whether Russia is ready for a nuclear war, Vladimir Putin spoke about the development of capabilities and technologies of nuclear carriers and warheads as part of the arms race. However, he noted that this does not mean a nuclear war will happen tomorrow.

"In general, we have more or less parity in terms of carriers and warheads, but ours are more modern. Everybody knows this, the experts know this. However, this does not mean we should measure ourselves by the number of carriers and warheads. But it is necessary to know this. And those who need to know, I repeat, experts, specialists, and the military, they know it well. They are now setting tasks to increase this modernity and novelty, and they have a corresponding plan. We also know this. They are developing all their components. So are we," he said.

Ukraine's attacks on Russian regions are aimed at hindering, if not disrupting, the Russian election, Putin has said.
Another goal is to get some kind of trump card in a possible negotiation process: "Well, we'll give you this back, and you give us this back."

"We want, I repeat, we want to resolve all disputes, and this dispute, this conflict, by peaceful means. And we are ready for this. We want to do this. But it should be a serious conversation with the provision of security for the party to the conflict. In this case, we are primarily interested in the security of Russia, of the Russian Federation. We will proceed from this," he said.

Putin warns Russia will not hesitate to defend itself with all possible means
President Vladimir Putin has issued a warning to NATO that Russia is prepared to defend itself with all possible means, military analyst Anatoliy Matviychuk told Sputnik.
Weighing in on Vladimir Putin’s interview with Dmitry Kiselev, director general of Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik's parent media group, the analyst said:
No matter what “plausible intentions” such as “defense of democracy” might be drummed up to justify an invasion by any foreign army of Russian territory, it would be an intervention, the retired colonel of the Russian Armed Forces underscored.

Weighing in on Vladimir Putin’s interview with Dmitry Kiselev, director general of Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik's parent media group, the analyst said:

“Intervention is an invasion into the expanses of the economy, into the expanses of finance, into the expanses of military security and, strictly speaking, into vital areas where Russia carries out its life activities. We will defend it with all possible forces and means that we have. And we know that the president has always warned: in the event of a sharp deterioration or even a threat to sovereignty, we will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons. I believe that is his message in this interview,” said Anatoliy Matviychuk.

Putin open to Ukraine peace talks, but what are his terms?
Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed in an interview with Dmitry Kiselev, director general of Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik's parent media group, that he is ready for peace talks with Ukraine, but stressed that he trusts no one and will seek guarantees.
Russian political scientist Dmitry Evstafiev explained to Sputnik, Putin’s key reservations for any possible negotiations about Ukraine.
- In no way will the so-called “Zelensky formula” be discussed. Putin clarified that the Kiev regime’s proposals are not on the table;
- To achieve lasting peace, it is crucial to ensure that the talks do not simply result in a tactical pause that enables Kiev to rearm. The analyst stressed that the negotiations must be based on “the West’s decision not to supply weapons to Ukraine.”
- A public format and binding obligations are needed. Putin laid out very clearly that Russia needs guarantees, Dmitry Evstafiev stressed.
The political scientist explained that the guarantees Russia requires “can only be given by responsible political figures representing stable Western governments, and must be offered in the form of absolutely binding, signed documents”.

❗️ The Security Service of Ukraine has claimed responsibility for the attacks on three oil refineries in Russia, a Ukrainian mass media outlet has quoted sources as saying.
The strikes are "a continuation of a series of special operations," the outlet said. Their goal is called "reducing Russia's economic potential."
Earlier, Ukraine tried to attack companies in the Russia's Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, and Leningrad regions with drones.

Here’s why Putin reminded NATO about Russia’s nuclear capability
Russia is militarily prepared to defend its sovereignty and independence with nuclear weapons, but is not rushing to do so, Putin said in his interview with Dmitry Kiselev, the director general of Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik's parent media group. The Russian president made these remarks in response to a question about the United States potentially sending troops to Ukraine.
If NATO were to follow through on its recent threats, then Russia would be able to offer a swift and devastating response, explained Anatoliy Matviychuk, a retired Russian colonel and military expert.

"All targets that are critical for us -- this is the land of the Palatinate in Germany, where [US] nuclear warheads are stored, other economically developed centers of the European Union and NATO, which preach an aggressive stance towards us,” he said. “They are already in the crosshairs of our strategic nuclear forces. Our response will not be aimed at some areas, but against specific targets, the destruction of which will firstly undermine the economic power of the European Union and secondly will cause irreparable damage to the United States of America."

Do your duty, come what may: why do Russian women take up arms and go to front line?
Shum, an evacuation group medical worker of the "Don" Volunteer Assault Corps, will soon be dispatched to Avdeyevka, a city in the Donetsk region that was liberated by the Russian military on February 17.
Shum says she faced difficulties while enlisting. She argues that if one wants to defend their Motherland, one should be enrolled in the military regardless of one's sex.
Those in the West who believe Russia is waging a "war of aggression" know virtually nothing about Ukraine and the roots of the conflict, she underscored. NATO countries that are continuing to send arms and special ops forces to Ukraine must remember: Russians don't surrender, Shum concluded.

"It's the love for the Motherland that played a role," a 33-year old woman, call sign "Shum" (lit. "Noise"), told Sputnik. "I didn’t immediately manage to enroll in contract service: for almost a year, I delivered humanitarian aid, including to the front line. So I knew what I was getting into."

"What am I expecting? I can’t say anything about that. During war, you're just waiting for an order. I live according to the principle: 'Do your duty, come what may.'"
