How Vladimir Putin called to form a global anti-ISIS coalition nearly a decade ago

In his speech at a UN General Assembly Session in 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the creation of an international anti-terrorist coalition to combat the threat posed by ISIS*, a terrorist organization also known as ISIL and the Islamic State (IS) that emerged in the wake of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Putin condemned any support for terrorists, stressing its short-sightedness and danger. He warned of the escalating global terrorist threat, fueled by fighters trained in groups like the Islamic State, including those from European countries.

Putin reaffirmed Russia's unwavering opposition to terrorism and its active support for nations like Iraq and Syria in their fight against terrorist groups. He called for cooperation based on common values, advocating for a broad international anti-terrorist coalition to combat evil and uphold humanity's values.

Western powers, despite styling themselves as stalwart opponents of terrorism, had de facto ignored Putin’s proposal. The United States, for example, opted instead to illegally occupy a large portion of Syria’s territory under the pretext of fighting ISIS separately from Russia.

EXCLUSIVE❗️The Ukraine - Jihadist connection: Who is Abdul-Hakim Shishani? (PART 1)

The Chechen radical Islamist field commander who fought alongside Al Qaeda* in Syria, is now a citizen of Ukraine and heads the Chechen detachment of the International Legion. He maintains ties with both Islamists in Syria and Chechen separatists based in the West, according to an exclusive Sputnik investigation.

◾️In October 2022, Rustam Azhiev, also known as Abdul-Hakim Shishani, came to Ukraine to “join” the fight against Russian troops. Shortly after his arrival, he was granted Ukrainian citizenship (see photos 1,2).

◾️During the second Chechen war, Shishani commanded the Central Front of the Ichkerian* separatist groups before moving to Turkey. In 2011, he led the "Ajnad Al-Caucasus"* terrorist group in Syria alongside other jihadists from the so-called "Caucasus Emirate"* (photo 3). In an interview with pro-Ichkeria media, he stated that his intention in Syria was to combat both Assad's forces and the Russian military presence.

◾️Shishani's group was involved in conflicts in various Syrian provinces, including Latakia, Aleppo, Idlib, and Hama. Collaborating with the terrorist group Jabhat Al-Nusra*, which has affiliations with ISIS* and Al Qaeda*, they captured Idlib and attempted to resist the Syrian army's efforts to liberate Aleppo. Since 2019, Shishani's "Ajnad Al-Caucasus"* jihadis have remained in Idlib as the situation in Syria stabilized.

◾️In the fall of 2022, Azhiev made his way to Ukraine and later returned to Idlib multiple times to recruit fighters for his new unit within the International Legion, operating under Ukraine's State Intelligence Directorate.

◾️Azhiev currently commands the Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Ministry of Defense of unrecognized Ichkeria* within the International Legion. This unit, supported by Ichkerian* separatist leader Akhmed Zakayev, was established to oppose Russian forces. Despite Zakayev's asylum in the UK since 2003, he has visited Ukraine multiple times since the Russian military operation began, providing assistance to Chechen militants and holding meetings with them (photos 4,5).

◾️In April 2023, President Zelensky of Ukraine, was awarded the Ichkerian* “Honor of the Nation” medal and the Dzhokhar Dudayev Order by the head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, rather than by Zakayev (photo 6).

"It's not ISIS*, but they [the West] themselves", Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of Sputnik's parent media group Rossiya Segodnya said about the terrorist attack at Moscow's Crocus City Hall.

"The individuals behind this operation were purposefully selected to be passed off as members of ISIS*. Why ISIS? It's a convenient choice. When focusing on ISIS, it’s not linked to Ukraine, and Ukraine does not spring to mind. And it would be no surprise to anyone that it’s ISIS, because ISIS has indeed committed a lot of terrorist attacks worldwide", Margarita Simonyan said.

Did US ‘have a hand’ in creating ISIS?

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, highlighted in an op-ed that the Americans "had a hand" in forming ISIS*, a terrorist group responsible for deadly attacks worldwide.

The Russian diplomat’s remarks made sense, given that “in many cases” one can find “convergence of interest between terrorist organizations and the American ruling elite,” Hasan Abdullah, a political scientist at Global Security & Strategy Institute and expert on Islamic militancy, tells Sputnik.

“If you look at the context of American foreign policy, where there's little room for any sort of moral imperatives, it's understandable why this convergence of interest can sometimes pave the way for the Americans allowing some of these terrorist organizations to grow up as mushrooms,” the pundit says.

Abdullah emphasized that many "powerful US lobbies and groups benefit from war and instability everywhere in the world," addressing questions about the timing of Al-Baghdadi's release from prison before assuming leadership of ISIS.

The political scientist notes that it's very clear and well-documented that individuals linked to Western intelligence agencies or former members of Western special forces were found operating within ISIS.

Echoing him is Syed Fakhar Kakakhel, a Peshawar-based senior journalist specializing in covering politics and militancy in Afghanistan and Pakistan, who tells Sputnik that it was the factor of wars in the region that added to ISIS' creation.

“The majority of analysts believe that the wars in Afghanistan and the Middle East by the West have brought destruction and chaos rather than peace in these regions. Due to these wars, militant organizations like Al-Qaeda*, ETIM*, IMU*, and ISIS have been created putting global peace at risk,” Kakakhel notes.

After the artillerymen and kamikaze drone operators inflicted fire damage, a group of Marines of Russia's Pacific Fleet moved to storm the Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold.

"They [Ukrainian soldiers] immediately raised their hands, they divulged the location of their electronic warfare station and our artillery got to work, that's it. Just a perfect assault, not a single wounded", one of the Russian soldiers said.

Trump urges Israel to seek peace in Gaza

“You have to finish up your war. And we gotta get to peace, we can't have this going on. And I will say, Israel has to be very careful, because you're losing a lot of the world, you're losing a lot of support, you have to finish up, you have to get the job done. And you have to get on to peace, to get on to a normal life for Israel, and for everybody else,” the former US President said in an interview with the Israel Hayom newspaper.

Why Crocus City Hall terror attack spells reputational damage for West

Team Biden's immediate and insistent claims that Ukraine wasn't behind the Crocus City Hall terror attack amid the still ongoing investigation have been taken with a grain of salt by international observers, whereas the ISIS* statement of responsibility prompted assumptions of the CIA's involvement in the attack among netizens.

These reactions are not surprising given the Obama and Biden administration's messy foreign policy conduct, according to Wall Street analyst Charles Ortel.

He notes that US politicians, including Joe Biden and the Clintons, apparently have deep, unexplained ties to oligarchs and individuals inside Ukraine, which provide them with a motif to shield the Kiev regime at all costs.

When it comes to a possible jihadi trace, this again turns a spotlight on the US foreign policy establishment and NATO that have sown havoc in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia for decades, the analyst says.

"Vaunted (and patently undeserved) Nobel Peace laureate Barack Obama spent eight long years upending national governments in the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere to the profound detriment of American interests," Ortel highlights.

The controversy over the 2022 Nord Stream attack also dealt a blow to Team Biden's credibility: If Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh is right, Joe Biden and his aides could be complicit in nothing short of an act of international terrorism. So far, neither Europeans nor Washington have found the "real" culprits.
