The European Union supports Ukraine not out of love for Ukrainian people but for the sake of its own interests, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.
Western countries have been providing military and financial aid to Kiev since the start of Russia's military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. The Kremlin has consistently warned against continued arms deliveries to Kiev, saying it would lead to further escalation of the conflict. In April 2022, Russia sent a diplomatic note to all NATO countries on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russian strikes.

"We cannot afford [for] Russia to win this war. Otherwise the US and European interests will be very damaged. It is not a matter of generosity alone … of supporting Ukraine because we love Ukrainian people. It is in our own interest. And it is also in the interest of the US as a global player," Borrell said in an interview with CNN.

Key statements by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in an interview with a Russian newspaper:
▪️ "The US pressures countries that try to continue cooperation with Russia and does not shy away from threats or blackmail.
▪️ All types of integration in the post-Soviet space are workable, their potential is still far from being fully realized.
▪️Russia is sympathetic to those countries that are finding it difficult to cope with US pressure and defend their independence.
▪️The US is desperately trying to hold on to the world Olympus, but it has problems in almost all directions -- it does not keep regional conflicts at bay.
▪️ International sport has been held hostage to political squabbles; this will have devastating consequences.
▪️ The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not talk to Russian sports authorities, there are practically no contacts.
▪️ The decision of Russian athletes to go to the Olympic Games should be treated with respect."

Iran and Russia's collaborative success: the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant
Building the first unit of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in cooperation with Russia has been one of the most important achievements in Iran’s energy sector, Deputy Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Hossein Derakhshandeh told Sputnik in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of ATOMEXPO-2024 international forum.
According to Derakhshandeh, the first unit of Bushehr NPP is a good example of international cooperation and, among other things, a creative approach to cooperation in the nuclear field.
"We are currently building the second and third units of Bushehr NPP in cooperation with the Russians and given the pace of the project, we expect that they will be commissioned on the scheduled dates," he said.

“This is a war against Russia”: Friday’s terrorist attack in context
Friday’s deadly attack near Moscow refocused the world’s attention on the threat of terrorism. But Russians have felt like a people under siege for years according to filmmaker Regis Tremblay, who joined Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program to place last week’s horrific events in broader context.
Although Friday’s incident at the Crocus City Hall music venue in a suburb of Moscow drew global shock, Tremblay explained it is not the first such terrorist attack suffered by Russian civilians in recent months. The filmmaker noted that the Russian border region of Belgorod has come under increasing assault from Ukrainian drones and missiles while Crimea was hit some 24 times over the past weekend.
The Kiev regime has frequently attacked civilian targets in the Donbass going back to 2014, prompting Russia’s intervention to protect ethnic Russians living there.
Tremblay noted recent comments from neoconservative US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland warning of an imminent “nasty surprise” for Russians, although he again insisted speculation should wait until Russia finishes its investigation of Friday’s attack.

“There's a feeling of anger in a lot of Russian people, and rightly so. This was a horrendous attack coming at a time when the Russians are beginning to realize that this is a war against Russia and Russia's future,” said the documentarian.
