Anti-establishment Republicans slam US House leadership over $60 billion Ukraine handout

Furious conservative lawmakers hit social media platforms to flay the US neocons pushing to fund the “forever foreign wars”, after the House advanced over $60 billion in new military assistance for Ukraine on Saturday.

🔺Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) excoriated House Speaker Mike Johnson and her colleagues for advancing the “sham” foreign aid package. The Georgia representative filed a resolution demanding Johnson’s removal, saying in a post he had “betrayed us on funding endless foreign wars.”

🔺Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona told Sputnik on Sunday that Congress was more eager to “waste” taxpayer money by sending it to a “corrupt” country abroad than using it sensibly to solve issues ordinary Americans care about.

🔺Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) slammed the vote as an “embarrassing show of America's last politicians.”

🔺GOP Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky posted footage from the House, commenting, “they vote to send more of your hard-earned money to a corrupt foreign regime.”

🔺Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) called the foreign aid package “disappointing", telling Fox News the Democrats “want the invasion” of illegal immigrants into the US.

🔺South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman went on X to say he voted against the “disingenuous rule that funds foreign wars without any border security measures for our own country.”

🔺“For the Swamp, it's Ukraine First and America Last.” Congressman Dan Bishop (R-NC) said.

🔺Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) lambasted the Ukraine aid bill with “Our border has been invaded because of Biden’s lack of concern for enforcing security.”

🔺Arizona’s Republican Rep. Eli Crane stressed he had refused to “rubber stamp billions more in deficit spending.”

🔺US Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) wrote that he voted against the bill because the entire process was "a dereliction of duty to the American people."

Israel rejected plans for a massive counterstrike on Iran under Western pressure — NYT

Israel abandoned plans for a major counterstrike against Iran after the US and other allies waged a diplomatic pressure campaign on Tel Aviv, according to three senior Israeli officials quoted by the New York Times.

Israeli leaders originally discussed hitting several military targets across Iran last week, including near the capital Tehran, in retaliation for the strike on April 13, the anonymous officials said.

However, such a broad and damaging attack would have been far harder for Tehran to overlook, increasing the chances of a forceful Iranian counterattack that could have brought the Middle East to the brink of a major regional conflict.

After US President Joe Biden, along with the British and German foreign ministers, urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prevent a full-scale war, Israel opted for a more limited strike on Friday that avoided significant damage, diminishing the likelihood of an escalation — at least for the time being.
