- The analysts were scheduled to address the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) as guest speakers
- This year the forum will take place from June 5-8

“Little Blinkie's utter mediocrity/imbecilic pettiness now in day-glo for the whole planet to see: preventing Scott and Judge Nap from boarding a plane in NYC to attend the St. Petersburg forum,” veteran geopolitical analyst Pepe Escobar wrote on his Telegram channel.

UPD:

According to Scott Ritter, Andrew Napolitano canceled his flight to Russia for different reasons unrelated to Ritter's removal from the plane.

"The confiscation of Scott's passport is an unconscionable act by a government that's afraid of him because of the truth he speaks," retired CIA intelligence officer Larry Johnson commented on the Biden State Department's apparent political persecution of Scott Ritter.

"America touts itself as the land of the free and the home of the brave, this demonstrating that it's only free for some and definitely a land of cowards," Johnson said.

Johnson worried he may be targeted in a similar fashion. "He's been convicted with no crime," he said of Ritter, noting the former Marine Corps intelligence officer had served his country in the US military.

"There have been no charges brought against him. So this is just an arbitrary act. But when people have that kind of power and they can act unrestrained, as they have under the Biden administration, it can happen to anybody. I anticipate when I go back, they may try to seize my passport," Johnson said.

"They take a US citizen who... just happened to be a critic of US policy and are now punishing him by preventing him from traveling freely. I think this will likely backfire because it's going to bring more attention to Scott, not less," Johnson concluded. "And it will get his message heard by more people instead of fewer people."

❗️US State Department forced Sputnik contributor Scott Ritter off plane headed to Russia and confiscated his passport “As I was boarding my flight out of New York I was pulled aside by three CBP officers, who seized my passport. When asked why, they said…
“Is this done under the First Amendment to the US Constitution or the Fourth?” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova asked sarcastically, commenting on ex-US intelligence officer Scott Ritter's removal from his flight to Russia and the confiscation of his passport.

The First Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees, among other things, non-interference with the freedoms of speech and assembly, while the Fourth Amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and detentions.

Earlier today, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and Sputnik contributor Scott Ritter told Sputnik that US Customs and Border Protection officers seized his passport “by orders” from the State Department as he boarded his flight, preventing him from traveling to Russia for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Netizens responded on social media to the news that former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and Sputnik contributor Scott Ritter was removed from a flight to Russia, where he was scheduled to speak at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"What is the US government so afraid of?" asked one user. "Truth maybe [or] Americans supporting Russia when we are propagandized to think Russia is the BAD guy and many do not comply with the mind games." The user accused US officials of targeting "truth tellers and fact gatherers."

"This raises questions about democracy and the First Amendment," noted another. "Isn't speaking out — even controversially — protected?"

"Does anyone still believe that you are living in the land of the free under a Biden government?" asked another user.

Ritter said he was removed from his flight and had his passport confiscated, reportedly on orders from the US State Department.

Australia’s prime minister has not decided on participation in the Swiss summit on a settlement of the Ukraine conflict, Deputy Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Graham Fletcher said. Earlier, Anthony Albanese had a phone conversation Ukrainian President…
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong will not attend the summit on Ukraine in Switzerland as they will hold a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported.

The Australian Foreign Ministry said the country would be represented at the summit by its Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme Bill Shorten. The unexpected choice was made despite Kiev's requests for Australia's representation at the summit at the level of prime minister or deputy prime minister.

Shorten said that Albanese asked him to attend the summit because of his long-standing interest in Ukraine despite the fact that he has no responsibility for international affairs.

“Mr Shorten is the minister for the NDIS and doesn’t even sit on the national security committee of cabinet, making this a most confusing and inadequate appointment for anyone who looks at it,” opposition foreign affairs spokesman Simon Birmingham emphasized.

The event in Lucerne is plagued by major no-shows: Joe Biden’s attention has been diverted to more pressing issues, such as rubbing elbows with Hollywood celebs at a fundraiser. China, Brazil, and South Africa have also refused to attend the event. Moscow has dismissed the conference, to which it was not invited, as “meaningless".

Russia has repeatedly signaled readiness for negotiations, yet Ukraine has legislatively imposed a ban on them. The West calls on Russia for talks, to which Moscow shows willingness, but Western countries overlook Kiev's consistent refusal for dialog.

✍️📄 Who is on Zelensky's naughty list for 'undermining' Ukraine peace summit? Zelensky accused China of 'undermining' the conference in Switzerland in his address to the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Sunday. On May 31, China confirmed it would not…
Zelensky’s sham summit in Switzerland slammed as ‘pep rally’, ‘PR stunt’ (Part 1)

“The security of a region should not be achieved by strengthening or expanding military blocs. The legitimate security interests and concerns of all countries must be taken seriously and addressed properly,” read a Chinese government statement last year on the ongoing Ukrainian conflict.

The document, which urged global powers to abandon a “Cold War mentality,” did not mention NATO by name, but its critique of the Western alliance’s steady march eastward was unmistakable.

Now as the ultimate failure of the United States’ proxy war against Russia is made clear, the West is suffering the consequences of its decades-long disregard for Russian interests, according retired senior policy analyst Michael Maloof. The expert discussed the issue and Zelensky’s conference on Ukraine scheduled for June 15–16 on Sputnik’s The Final Countdown program.

“Russia wasn't even invited,” he noted. “All that this is to me is a pep rally, a PR stunt by Zelensky to garner support. This is not diplomacy. Diplomacy occurs when you get two opposite sides sitting down at the same table and working something out, working out a compromise. They had that. This is all being ignored.”

Zelensky released a slickly-produced video last week urging the US and Chinese presidents to participate in the purported peace talks, set to be held at a luxury resort in Switzerland. Various observers have criticized the event for failing to include representatives from Russia. Ukrainian officials are legally prevented from engaging in talks with the country per a late 2022 edict by Zelensky that outlaws negotiations with Russia.

Zelensky’s sham summit in Switzerland slammed as ‘pep rally’, ‘PR stunt’ (Part 2)

“What's being ignored are the underlying causes. There was an agreement and it was signed,” said Maloof of widely-reported talks between Ukraine and Russia that took place during the early months of Russia’s special military operation. “It was just under pressure from the UK and the US on Zelensky not to implement. And there was a reason for Putin's undertaking his special military operation, because Ukraine was threatening to join NATO and he could not have that.”

“What was ignored was six existing agreements on indivisibility. What that meant is that you don't arm the West at the expense of the East. They were all torn up by the West through NATO expansion… All of that has been ignored,” Maloof enphasized.

The analyst claimed the proposed summit is a desperate attempt to garner international support as reports suggest Ukraine’s strained armed forces are nearing collapse. “He's at his limit,” the expert claimed. “He knows that he's finished. He knows the war is basically over, and he's trying to get more of a popularity type of thing going and people aren't buying into it… Russia's stated over and over again they're prepared to sit down with the Ukrainians to work something out. And Zelensky has said he will not do it.”

“I have never seen anything that Zelensky has done as logical,” he added. “This is a comedian who, all of a sudden, gets elevated to the position of the president of his country on the promise that he was not going to go to war with Russia. And look where he is now.”

“This clown has just absolutely become authoritarian,” Maloof said of Zelensky, who has been heavily criticized for shutting down independent media outlets and banning opposition parties. “He's defied every aspect of why we're even in there in the first place. ‘Oh, we're trying to defend democracy and all that stuff.’ That's just total nonsense, particularly given how this current government came about in 2014 through a coup of a legitimate government – and we backed it. We supported it and we basically initiated it.”

South Korea will fully suspend military agreement with North Korea South Korea's National Security Council has decided that it is necessary to fully suspend the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement until trust is restored between Seoul and Pyongyang, Yonhap…
South Korea partially exits its military agreement with DPRK. What comes next?

Seoul's National Security Council announced that it finds it necessary to put a stop to some of the already limited legal measures of the Comprehensive Military Agreement between two Koreas. Signed on September 19, 2018, during a period of détente, the deal limited military activity around the demilitarized zone (DMZ).

Formally called “The Agreement on Implementation of the Historic Panmunjom Declaration in the Military Domain,” the document established no-fly zones next to the DMZ and prohibited live-fire navy drills and other military exercises close to the DMZ and the two countries’ maritime borders.

“Trash balloons” from North Korea became the formal reason why Seoul decided to suspend such a peaceful, soft-sounding agreement. In fact, the launch of balloons, which indeed came from the territory of North Korea (DPRK) and inconvenienced some South Koreans, was retaliation for propaganda balloons from the South Korean side, which kept landing in DPRK since late 2023.
This unending propaganda stunt from Seoul was a violation of the Comprehensive Agreement, but South Korea partially exited the deal in November 2023, using the launch of DPRK’s first reconnaissance satellite as a pretext. Pyongyang, however, argued it only wanted equal security terms, citing the number of US satellites over the Korean peninsula.

What comes next? The immediate consequence of the agreement’s suspension will be Seoul's resumption of military exercises next to the DMZ. In fact, in May, South Korea conducted joint exercises with the US. The response will likely follow suit: DPRK insists on its right to make Seoul face “equivalent” threats.

In an interview with Sky News NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg admitted that Russia has built up its defense industry more rapidly than expected, complaining that NATO countries have meanwhile required more time to increase arms production.

“It's correct that Russia has been able to build up their defense industry faster than we expected and it's correct that NATO allies have spent more time than they should in ramping up our production,” Stoltenberg said.

Russia has repeatedly warned NATO countries that arms supplies to Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets. Moscow has accused NATO countries of "playing with fire" by arming Ukraine, emphasizing that such actions hinder the possibility of Russia-Ukraine negotiations.

Italy's opposition Five Star Movement will take a stand in the European Parliament against arms supplies to Ukraine and in favor of finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict, the movement's candidate for the position of the European parliament member in Italy, Gianluca Ferrara, told Sputnik.

“I hope there will be other forces in the European Parliament who want to stop going down the path of sending arms all the time. This does not lead to any solution. Russia is a huge state, you can't even think of defeating it. The only way will be World War III with mutual extermination,” Ferrara said.

The movement supports dialogue and diplomatic solution to the conflict, the candidate added.

Kremlin mulls response as NATO enables Ukraine’s terrorism against Russian civilians

Ukraine has increasingly resorted to terrorist attacks in residential areas and against Russian civilians as the chances of its victory on the battlefield grow ever more remote. Shelling of a town in Russia’s Belgorod region over the weekend left six people injured, with a local official tragically dying as a result of detonation of ammunition during the attack.

Security analyst Mark Sleboda joined Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program to examine President Vladimir Putin’s options amid repeated Western escalation of the proxy conflict against Russia.

“This game that NATO and its member states can punch Russia through the sock puppet of their proxy putsch regime in Ukraine continues,” Sleboda observed. “And [NATO Secretary-General Jens] Stoltenberg does not fear Russian threats – that's a problem.”

“Russia is not clearly setting red lines and then dictating consequences and carrying through with them on NATO countries,” the expert argued. “Now, they may not feel that they have had to thus far in this conflict because they are winning on the battlefield… They just keep on carrying on what they're doing and winning the battle on the battlefield in Ukraine, and don't wish to potentially escalate this directly against NATO in a way that could spin out of their and anyone's control. But here's the problem, it's that this type of response does create an Overton window where NATO now feels complete impunity with escalations.”

Sleboda pointed out that Russia has enjoyed considerable success in disabling NATO weaponry via electronic warfare, even earning plaudits in Western media for its technological supremacy. But going forward, the analyst said Russia would need to consider how to effectively respond to Ukrainian aggression, balancing the desire to react proportionally with the need to create deterrence.

Whatever Moscow’s response, the analyst noted that Ukraine’s provocations “certainly won't result in a change in the endgame of this conflict.”

Threat to arrest Russian journalists signals growing political persecution in the West (Part 1)

The Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ) has been forced to disavow comments by its legal director calling for the arrest of Russian journalists after intense backlash.

Anna Neistat, who leads the foundation’s The Docket project, claimed Thursday that her team is urging international authorities to prosecute Russian reporters. “We want them to travel to other countries and be arrested there,” said Neistat, revealing that she is pressuring the European Union and International Criminal Court to pursue the matter. Neistat made the comments during an interview with the US state-backed propaganda outlet Voice of America.

The organization has since backpedaled on the provocative claim with a statement asserting that “someone in our foundation misspoke,” but observers see the proposal as yet another sign of the West’s growing authoritarianism and intolerance of dissenting voices. Author and political analyst Caleb Maupin joined Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program to discuss the incident.

“There's a lot of things to keep in mind in reaction to this news story,” said the author and reporter. “The first of which is that the European Union has basically already outlawed all Russian media within the EU space, right? You can't watch RT. Websites are suppressed, blocked, and it's pretty hard to look at Russian media in the EU.”

“What is a little bit different, though, about this is that this was specifically aimed at journalists who would report in Russian, for Russian audiences, but would do so from EU countries. And the idea was that they would be charged, and what's interesting also is that the warrants for their arrest would be secret. They would be arrested upon arrival and it would be a way to basically just kidnap these reporters and journalists and hold them hostage.
