Hungarian FM Peter Szijjarto responds to Sputnik's question on nuclear sanctions against Russia

"Half of our electricity production comes from nuclear. And our nuclear power plant is being fueled by Russian nuclear fuel. So in case of a sanction regime against nuclear fuel, would absolutely make it impossible to supply our country with electricity safely. So therefore, it is not only that we do not support sanctions on nuclear, but we are interested in further improving our nuclear cooperation with Russia, simply because it is our national interest," Szijjarto said.

He also spoke about the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Hungary, for which Rosatom is the main contractor:

"We are now in a construction phase regarding our new nuclear power station, where the main contractor is Rosatom. And they are working together with American, French, and German soft contractors. And the new nuclear power plant is kind of a life insurance for us when it comes to the safe supply of electricity for the future and when it comes to being prepared for the new age of global economy," the Hungarian FM stated.

🇷🇺 🌍 "Russia is not putting pressure on African countries about politics;" it just wants to help the continent, president of Cameroonian diaspora in Russia says

"That is very important because African countries have to define themselves, their politics," Louis Gowend, who is also the editor-in-chief of Hello Africa magazine, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of #SPIEF2024.

He praised this Russian approach, adding that it's why African nations "would like to do business with Russia."

🗣 Speaking about why Africa is attractive to Russian investors and vice versa, Gowend said that it is necessary for both sides to have many different partners, apart from the West and Asia, so that they have a choice.

"When you diversify your partners, you have more opportunities. This is right for Africa and also for Russia," he noted.

📹 Now, more than 80% of all our payments with our BRICS colleagues are in national currencies, said First Deputy Chairman of Russia's State Duma Alexander Zhukov at the SPIEF session “BRICS Goals in the Context of the New World Order” about economic cooperation between the member countries of the organization.

Establishing payment mechanisms within BRICS that do not depend on the Western banking system is one of the most pressing topics today, Alexander Zhukov added.

Iran blames UK, France and Germany for possible disruption of IAEA agreements

Europe’s Big Three (Britain, France and Germany) will be held responsible for Iran's possible response to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) passing a resolution that claims that Tehran is not cooperating sufficiently with the organization, according to Mohsen Naziri Asl, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative at the UN and other international organizations in Vienna.

"Undoubtedly, this resolution will have a strong [negative] impact on the positive atmosphere for coordinating further steps between Iran and the IAEA. The European Big Three will have to bear responsibility for any consequences,” Asl pointed out.

The IAEA Board of Governors’ meeting was influenced by “provocative and unconstructive actions by a raft of countries with a record of non-compliance with international law," he said. Europe’s Big Three submitted the draft anti-Iranian resolution in order to "distract attention from their irresponsible behavior and to ignore the existing realities in the field of Iran's nuclear program, which is purely peaceful," the Iranian diplomat stressed.

He added that European countries' attempts to put pressure on Iran and prod it to renounce its rights to go ahead with peaceful nuclear activities will not be successful.

Putin's meeting with reporters at SPIEF: global media reactions

Russian President Vladimir Putin's sit-down with the heads of a number of international news agencies on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024 has grabbed the headlines of these outlets.

🔸 China's Xinhua quoted Putin as saying that the development of Russia-China relations, based on profound common interests, is conducive to world stability.

🔸Iran's IRNA quoted Putin as praising the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi for "a great role in the expansion of ties between the two countries" and promising that efforts would be made to preserve the achievements made during Raisi's tenure.

🔸The Turkish news agency Anadolu mentioned the Russian president's warning that "if someone's actions threaten our [Russia's] sovereignty and territorial integrity", Moscow will use all the means at its disposal.

Separately, Anadolu quoted Putin as calling Israeli actions in Gaza "a kind of total destruction of civilian population".

🔸Japan's Kyodo News highlighted the Russian leader's comments that conditions are not currently right for Moscow to resume talks with Tokyo on a post-World War II peace treaty.

🔸Reuters and the AP, in turn, pointed to Putin's statement that Moscow could respond in kind if the US and its European allies allow Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia with Western long-range weapons.

🔸Putin's comments on the matter also made headlines on the BBC, CNN, Sky News, the New York Times and the Washington Post.

🔸The Telegraph, for its part, alluded to the Russian president's emotional reaction to allegations of Moscow's supposed plans to attack NATO, which Putin said were nothing but "b*ll*cks".
