Moral crisis: confusion between the US and Israel continue to rise up
Confusion between the US and Israel appeared to continue as the UN Security Council adopted a US-drafted ceasefire resolution for Gaza based on a proposal that was outlined by US President Joe Biden. The US claimed that Israel accepted the proposal, however Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly rejected it and maintains little to no possibility of a ceasefire.
On Saturday the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had rescued four of their hostages, including a Russian national, who had been kidnapped from the Nova music festival on October 7. While news of the rescue was welcomed by the US - who helped aid the mission - many condemned Israel’s actions after the Gaza Health Ministry said that at least 274 Palestinians had been killed as a result.

The US claimed that Israel accepted the proposal, however Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly rejected it and maintains little to no possibility of a ceasefire.
“So on the one hand, the UN has passed this resolution. The US says that Israel supports it, Israel says it doesn't support it,” said Radhika Desai, an author and professor in the Department of Political Studies and the director of the Geopolitical Economy Research Group at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, sat down with Sputnik's The Critical Hour.
“I would say that one thing that has not changed in this situation is the US continued and dogged support for Israel no matter what. But what has changed is that there are now the beginnings of cracks within the coalition in Israel. Benny Gantz has resigned because he thinks that Netanyahu is not being aggressive enough,” continued Desai.

“If you look at the sheer number of bombs that had been dropped on this tiny strip of land called Gaza. It is now increased and beyond is now surpassed the level of all the bombs used in World War II. Just consider that,” said Desai. “[Israel says] that Hamas is using civilians as human shields. You left hardly any space for Hamas. Of course, Hamas and civilians are all going to have to take shelter in the same place.”

💥Watch Iskander-M take part in second stage of the non-strategic nuclear forces exercises
The missile formations of the Russian Leningrad Military District are working out combat training tasks for obtaining special training ammunition for the Iskander-M operational and tactical missile system, equipping them with launchers and secretly advancing to the designated position area to prepare for missile launches, the Defense Ministry informs.
The maneuvers should be seen in the context of bellicose statements by Western politicians and destabilizing actions by NATO, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Russian ships entering Cuba give US a dose of its own medicine
The decision to send Russian ships to Cuba is giving America a taste of what they do to the rest of the world, international relations and security expert Mark Sleboda told Sputnik’s The Critical Hour.
The US has frequently run “military exercises” off the coast of its nominal adversaries, including China, North Korea, Iran and Russia. Earlier this week, NATO kicked off BALTOPS 2024 in the Baltic Sea, the largest exercise in the program’s history. According to Russian reports, it included a simulated nuclear strike on the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

“I think we can definitely see this as a direct Russian reply to the general US declaration of conducting what it calls ‘Freedom of navigation’ exercises. Although, as far as we know, no one has challenged the freedom of navigation,” Sleboda explained. “They patrol their navy up and down off Russia’s and China’s and Iran’s coast, saber-rattling and threatening as part of their policy of containment.”

Cheap Sellout: Ukraine to sell state property amid military spending shortfall
The Ukrainian government is planning to auction off some 20 state-owned companies in a bid to boost Ukraine's budget, which is "short $5 billion this year for military spending," the New York Times reports.
According to the newspaper, Ukraine has more than 3,000 state-controlled companies, of which only 15% are profitable. Since the country "did not currently have enough weapons," businessmen are calling for privatization and the sale of assets.
The authorities plan to sell $100 million worth of assets this year, but Ukrainian officials and experts acknowledge that given the risks posed by the conflict, assets are likely to be sold at lower prices.
Past privatization efforts have often been ill-conceived, economists say, leaving large assets in the hands of oligarchs. Businessmen complain that state-owned enterprises are a "breeding ground for corruption and other illegal activities.

"The state is in desperate need of money," said Michael Lukashenko, a representative of a law firm that has advised companies on privatization. "If we don't sell now and raise money, soon there will be nothing to sell."
