"Together with Oxford University, we have taken preliminary steps in producing an Omicron variant vaccine, in case it is needed, and will be informed by emerging data," global media relations manager Flavia Garcia said.
💊 FDA to authorize COVID-19 pills this week

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to authorize two COVID-19 treatment pills - Pfizer’s Paxlovid and Merck’s molnupiravir - next week. Both medications are meant to treat higher-risk COVID-19 patients.

Merck’s research has suggested that the company's pill reduced the risk of hospitalization by 50 percent, whereas Pfizer's pill has proved far more effective by reducing the chances of hospitalization by 89 percent.

The US government has ordered 10 million Pfizer pills and roughly 3 million Merck doses in the same form.
Donald Trump is very appreciative and surprised that US President Joe Biden thanked his administration for their COVID vaccine successes.

During the announcement of expanded access to vaccines and support for hospitals across the country, Biden acknowledged the prior administration and the US scientific community for assisting in making it possible for America to be "one of the first countries to get the vaccine."

In an interview with Fox News, Trump reacted to Biden’s acknowledgement of his administration’s efforts.

"I'm very appreciative of that — I was surprised to hear it," Trump told Fox News. "I think it was a terrific thing, and I think it makes a lot of people happy."

📉 Life expectancy in the US dropped by almost 2 years in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic

Mortality data released by the National Center for Health Statistics calculated the average life expectancy in 2020 at 77 years — a 1.8-year decrease from 2019. This is the biggest one year decline in more than 75 years.

Heart disease, cancer and COVID are the three leading causes of death.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 The first round of security talks between Russia and the US is set to take place in early 2022, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov revealed in an exclusive interview with RT.

🗣 "In the foreseeable future, we [...] want to do this in January, we plan to use the negotiating platform to discuss the second document - the draft agreement between Russia and NATO countries [on security guarantees]", Lavrov told RT.

According to the foreign minister, Washington's reaction to the security proposals from Moscow was "business-like".

▪️ A family in Louisiana has lost three members in a car crash: Lindy Simmons (20), Christopher Simmons (17), and Kamryn Simmons (15) died after their vehicle was reportedly hit by a wrong-way driver on Friday. The driver was also killed, as per reports.

The victims’ mother, Dawn Simmons, as well as Christopher’s girlfriend Marissa remain in critical condition.

The family had nine children.

“We went from our ‘big family of 9 kids’ to 6 kids in the blink of an eye. I don’t know how we will ever move on or recover from this”, wrote Katie DeRouen, the second-eldest of the nine.
