First Lady Dr. Jill Biden unveils White House holiday décor and theme for the 2021 winter season: "Gifts from the Heart" ahead of the holidays.
"Democracy is under attack": a spokesman for former President Donald Trump, Taylor Budowich, is cooperating with the Jan. 6 committee investigation, but fighting a subpoena from the House Jan. 6 Committee for financial records, arguing in a court filing that he's being denied due process after providing hundreds of pages of documents and hours of sworn testimony.
🗣"For me, this complaint being filed in federal court is not about politics or partisanship," Budowich said. "Government should not be a weapon that's freely used against political opponents and private citizens — but it seems like this Democrat-led Congress is intent on codifying that precedent."
The Trump spokesman's attorneys claim that the subpoena lacks "a valid legislative purpose" and that compelling JPMorgan Chase to produce financial records violates the First Amendment.

🎁Enjoying Christmas...with no gifts.
A New Hampshire mom said all her Christmas presents were stolen from a checked bag on a flight from Paris to Boston this month. And instead the gifts, the bag was full of dog food, trash and dirty T-shirts. The airline reportedly apologized for the thefts and is reportedly working to find a resolution.
Now she has a compelling story to give, instead of gifts.

💸🇺🇸Soaring prices seem to be putting the US Federal Reserve on the spot. But the Fed cannot fix the inflation on its own and blaming it "isn't getting us anywhere," Kyle Shostak, the director of US investment company Navigator Principal Investors, tells Sputnik.
"The Fed can help ease inflation when it comes to labor costs and housing market but it is helpless in dealing with the disasters caused by the global supply chain breakage," Shostak says.
Rate hikes will only really work when the supply chain starts showing "strong signs of recovery," the investor believes.

End of era: New York’s famed $1 street pizza is under threat from rising costs amid supply chain problems and inflation.
Abdul Muhammad, the owner of 99 Cent Fresh Pizza, an eight-location chain in Manhattan, said he may be forced to raise the price of a slice for the first time since opening in 2001, as nearly two years of pandemic-reduced foot traffic is deeply affecting his cost of doing business.
🗣“I have to think about it because my customers, many of them unemployed and struggling to make rent, can’t afford to pay more,” Muhammad said, “I feel bad because everybody has had a lot of problems with the coronavirus, no jobs, everything was closed, and the food stores that were open doubled their prices. So I try to stay open to help the people.”

👮♀️The wife of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was arrested Christmas Eve on a domestic violence charge.
Erika Wulff Jones faces misdemeanor charges of 'assault causing bodily injury to a family member and resisting arrest, search or transport.' Alex Jones, a founder of the right-wing media group Infowars, suggested his wife's violent actions, reportedly directed at him, stem from a “medication imbalance”
🗣Jones claimed that his wife’s arrest “doesn’t concern my politics” and that “it wasn’t some kind of personal hateful thing or anything.”

Possible relics of a lost WWII-era US bomber and crew were found in Sicily, Italy.
A six-week archaeological dig that ended this week was carried out by a team from the Pentagon’s Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, which locates and identifies missing US military personnel anywhere around the world.
The dig uncovered wreckage “consistent only to a B-25 aircraft,’’ said archaeologist Clive Vella, with confirmed remains possibly linked to the missing crew of a bomber shot down on July 10, 1943.
The evidence, which includes likely human bones as well as purported remnants of an aircraft, has been transported to a laboratory in the US for examination.

🇺🇦🤷♀️ About 59,000 of The New York Times readers fail to locate Ukraine on the map.
One of the 40 questions in the online 2021 news quiz claims that "Thousands of Russian troops moved near Ukraine’s border late this year, stoking fear of an invasion." The readers are then asked to locate Ukraine on the map.
According to current results, only 68 percent of 185,242 readers managed to correctly pinpoint Ukraine’s location. Thus, about 59,000 people do not know where Ukraine is situated.
🤔 Does that say something about the newspaper?

A kangaroo is strangled to death by a Tennessee resident.
When exotic animals don't live in their natural habitat accidents like this happen. And this time a resident in Sumner County, Tennessee, says she was attacked by her neighbor’s kangaroo when she went to her neighbors property to get the animal back to its usual confinement, as it was out. The husband then stepped in, strangling the kangaroo.
The owners of the kangaroo say they are heartbroken over the death of their beloved “Carter.” Now, the Leas say they are looking for some kind of restitution over Carter’s death, as he was choked on their property, which was entirely fenced in.

🇺🇸 The man who told US President Joe Biden “Let’s Go Brandon” during the Christmas Eve Santa tracker phone call says he “mean[s] no disrespect to him.”
🔎“At the end of the day, I have nothing against Mr. Biden, but I am frustrated because I think he can be doing a better job,” Jared Schmeck, 35, who is a father of four and works for an electric company (also used to work as a Medford police officer), told The Oregonian.
Schmeck, who posted a video of the livestreamed call on YouTube, said he is not a “Trumper,” but a “free-thinking American and follower of Jesus Christ.”
The phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” became popular with US conservatives after an October NASCAR race in Alabama. The crowd was shouting a vulgar anti-Biden slur, but a TV reporter was trying to hide it by suggesting during an interview with racing driver Brandon Brown that the people were actually chanting “Let’s go, Brandon.”
