On July 28, Russia celebrates Navy Day, honoring the sailors, naval aviation, and coastal troops of the Russian Armed Forces. President Vladimir Putin attended the main naval parade in St. Petersburg, saying that Russia continues to provide its naval forces with top-notch equipment.
In 2024, up to 200 ships and vessels of various classes, as well as 100 units of military equipment and some 15,000 servicemen are involved in the celebration events.
Naval parades are held at the main bases of the Russian Northern, Baltic, and Pacific Fleets, as well as the Caspian Flotilla and at the base of the permanent operational unit in the Mediterranean Sea.

Covered with glory: the Russian Navy marks its 310th anniversary
On July 28, the Russian Navy celebrates its glorious three-century history, which began under the Russian Tsar Peter the Great.
In previous centuries the Russian Navy defeated those of Sweden and the Ottoman empire, resisted the invasion of Turkish, French and British fleets in the Crimean War, ensured the USSR's victory over Nazi Germany and continued to guard Russia's borders and national interest in subsequent decades.
The Russian Navy has recently been modernized and equipped with cutting edge hypersonic missile systems to uphold strategic parity and successfully perform its security tasks.

Peu! Olympic Triathlon training cancelled over poor water quality in the Seine
Still reeling from Friday night’s freak show of an Olympic opening ceremony featuring drag performers parodying the Last Supper, the Games’ organizers are facing a new problem: unsatisfactory water quality in the Seine River for Olympic events.
Organizers canceled a triathlon training session Sunday after testing determined that the water was simply too polluted for Olympians to train safety, with a “joint decision” made to scrap the swimming leg of the triathlon orientation.
Organizers say pollution levels increased due to recent heavy rains, but expressed ‘confidence’ that water quality would get back to safe levels by the time the triathlon competition kicks off July 30. If not, the entire event may be postponed.
Water quality in the Seine River has been a concern for months ahead of the Games, with authorities spending 1.4 billion euros to try to address high levels of toxic sewage, rat infestations, and high E.coli bacteria levels.
