"They are just reports," US Dept of State Deputy Spokesperson downplays monstrous reports of IDF soldiers using Palestinians as ‘human shields’

"But I also just want to stress, Saeed, that they are just reports at this point," Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel sheepishly told one reporter. “And that is why we would encourage Israel to look into what’s going on.”

"So do you condemn the Israelis for using Palestinians for the same purpose that you condemn Hamas?" a reporter insisted.

However, the spokesperson did not condemn the Israelis’ alleged, unethical acts.

"So what makes these reports about Hamas using Palestinians as human shields as fact on the ground? Because you're not there and you don't really verify," the reporter insisted bravely.

"Nadia, we know with incredible certainty that Hamas has a clear track record of using civilian infrastructure and protected facilities as areas of operation as bases and using civilians as human shields. That is not a hyperbole," Patel said.

"Two weeks ago, I asked you about a photo of Israeli soldiers posing in front of the Turkish-Palestinian friendship hospital. And there were also reports that the IDF was using this hospital as their military base... Do you have any updates on that?" another reporter cornered Patel.

"I don't have any specifics to offer as it relates to that at this time," the spokesperson replied, before yet again shifting the US’ responsibility of answering the question back to Israel.

Zombie ‘Russiagate’ conspiracy persists as US stokes fear, hatred of Moscow

“Russiagate continues to survive like a science fiction monster, resilient to bullets,” writes former CIA analyst Ray McGovern in a piece on Consortium News, noting the longevity and usefulness of the conspiracy in continuing to stoke hostility towards Moscow among the American public.

The notion that Russia interfered in the 2016 US presidential election or played a role in hacking leaked Democratic Party emails has persisted even after sworn testimony from the cyber security firm CrowdStrike confirmed the lack of evidence for the claim.

“The mainstream media has been incredibly adept at suppressing all this stuff,” McGovern noted on Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program. “No matter what we write in Consortium News or other outlets – it's on antiwar .com now, too – or however much you and I share this information, we're fighting an uphill battle.”

“Why is this important? Just to remind folks who might not reflect on this, Russia has been demonized to the point where Donald Trump has been blamed on the Russians – think what you will of that,” he continued.

“And all kinds of other things have been blamed on the Russians to the point where if these not very emotionally stable people in the White House decide to go after the Russians in Ukraine or even get involved against the Russians in Syria or elsewhere in the Middle East, most of the American people say, ‘oh yeah, those damn Russians, didn't they give us Donald Trump?’”

'They need a scapegoat': US favored Japanese leader to step down

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has announced his plans to step down as leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The move comes after Kishida's sinking approval ratings, which follow a corruption scandal surrounding the party, as well as rising living costs and a weakening yen, Sputnik reported.

“Japan has been a one-party state since that period. And so, to casually dismiss that is nonsense. But, what it does show is that they do need a scapegoat. Japan's economy is crashing. It's going the way of Germany or the UK. And so, they need a scapegoat,” said peace activist, writer, and teacher, K.J. Noh who joined Sputnik's The Critical Hour on Wednesday.

In November, Kishida had reportedly taken drastic action to replace top members of his cabinet following voter anger in response to a fundraising proceeds scandal. Lawmakers in Japan’s ruling party had been accused of underreporting funds with over 100 million yen ($680,000) of fundraising proceeds failing to be officially reported on.

“And then on top of that, when the US forced Japan, as a member of the G7, to stop importing oil and natural gas from Russia, that put an even greater impact on an already ailing economy. And so, they need a scapegoat for this economic collapse. And so, Kishida is on his way out,” Noh added. “He's going to fall on his sword and they're going to put in somebody who's essentially a clone.”

Japan is yet another sacrifice zone in the US global economic war against China. It's essentially a bumper, a crash test dummy,” the educator said.

Germany hunts for Ukrainian diver blamed for Nord Stream destruction German authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian man suspected of being involved in the terrorist attack that destroyed the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines in 2022. The…
Ex-Ukrainian top general reportedly behind Nord Stream pipeline sabotage

The September 2022 “shoestring operation” to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline network was initially a plot by a handful of senior Ukrainian military officers, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing the officers involved in the plot.

Volodymyr Zelensky initially approved the plan within a few days, and all orders regarding the operation were given verbally, so as not to leave any evidence, according to the sources.

Zelensky ordered a halt after the CIA learned of “one of the most audacious acts of sabotage in modern history” and reportedly asked the then-Ukrainian president to pull the plug.

Valery Zaluzhny, who served as Ukraine’s commander-in-chief at the time, ignored Zelensky’s order and his team modified the original plan to destroy the pipeline. However, Zaluzhny denied his involvement in the attack, saying that he wasn’t aware and that any suggestions to the contrary were "a mere provocation."

The WSJ report comes after German authorities issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian man suspected of being involved in the Nord Stream explosion and identified only as Volodymyr Z., a diving instructor.

The new findings could worsen relations between Ukraine and Germany, the second-largest Kiev’s supporter, according to the WSJ.

Russia considers the Nord Stream sabotage an act of international terrorism. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the West has deliberately dragged its feet on a probe into the Nord Stream blasts. Moscow proceeds from the assumption that Western countries are either hiding something or simply covering up the perpetrators.

Ex-Ukrainian top general reportedly behind Nord Stream pipeline sabotage The September 2022 “shoestring operation” to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline network was initially a plot by a handful of senior Ukrainian military officers, The Wall Street Journal…
An adviser to the head of Zelensky's office, Mykhaylo Podolyak, claims that Ukraine had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines.

He stated that Ukraine did not have the necessary technical and financial resources at the time of the explosions.

The topic of explosions on gas pipelines has been actively discussed in the media again in the last couple of days. Earlier, Germany published data on possible suspects, while the American media wrote that ex-commander-in-chief, Zaluzhny, was allegedly responsible for the operation.

US officials believe Israel will never destroy Hamas – report

A growing number of US national security officials reportedly insist that although Hamas was badly damaged by the Israeli military’s attacks, Tel Aviv “would never be able to completely eliminate the group."

The Israel Defense Forces' ongoing bombings are only increasing risks to Gaza civilians while the possibility of further weakening Hamas has diminished, the sources also argue, as reported.

The claims followed Hamas announcing that it will not partake in the indirect talks on a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal that are due to resume in Doha, Qatar on August 15.

The Palestinian group made it clear that they want a roadmap for implementing the agreement and would “not engage in negotiations for the sake of negotiations in order to provide cover for Israel to continue its war.”

The US, Qatar and Egypt earlier urged Israel and Hamas to resume urgent discussions so as "to close all remaining gaps" and start implementing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza without "further delay." The call came amid months of failed attempts to clinch the truce deal on Gaza, where Israel's continued bombardment has already killed around 40,000 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
