The Red Cross has declared its first-ever national blood crisis in the US

In a Tuesday statement, the organization warned members of the public of the consequences of its worst blood shortage in more than a decade — including doctors being forced to make "difficult decisions" about which patients receive blood transfusions over others.

The American Red Cross said it had "less than a one-day supply of critical blood types" and has had to limit distributions to hospitals

“Tired of being quiet”: US President Joe Biden urges the Senate to change filibuster rules to pass key voting reform legislation put forward by Democrats.

Biden has been under fire to get a voting reform bill through Congress that would require eliminating a procedure called the filibuster, which allows a minority party to kill legislation.

🗣"The United States Senate, designed to be the world’s greatest deliberative body, has been rendered a shell of its former self," Biden said during a speech in the state of Georgia on Tuesday.

🗣"As an institutionalist, I believe that the threat to our democracy is so grave that we must find a way to pass these voting rights bills, debate them, vote. Let the majority prevail. And if that bare minimum is blocked, we have no option but to change the Senate rules, including getting rid of the filibuster for this."
Novak Djokovic issued a statement regarding what he referred to as 'misinformation' about his activities prior to a positive PCR test amid the tussle between the world's top-seeded tennis player and Australia's federal government over the former's visa.

On Tuesday, Djokovic's problems were further aggravated after reports that the Belgrade-born player had lied on his Australian travel entry form. Australia's Border Force is now investigating the new claim and, if the evidence proves that the nine-time Australian Open winner made a false declaration about his travel history, he could face up to 12 months in prison.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 US Democratic senators will present a new Russia sanctions bill on Wednesday that would bring "severe costs" to the Russian economy in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, in an effort backed by the White House, The Washington Post reports.

The bill would hit companies in Russia that offer secure messaging systems such as SWIFT.

The measure comes as the Biden administration tries to prevent Democrat defection in support of a Republican-led bill targeting Russia's Nord Stream 2, an effort the White House says may undermine its reengagement with Europe.

Empty shelves and food supply problems – another food crisis in the US. Meanwhile, the country is setting world records for the number of people infected with the coronavirus due to the Omicron strain.

Can things get any worse?
📈 The United States posted 7.0% annual inflation, the highest since 1982

Energy prices rose 29.3% and food prices 6.3%, according to the CPI index (CPI). If these volatile sectors are excluded, core inflation reached 5.5%, its highest level since February 1991.

Inflation, which many economists, including those in the White House and the Federal Reserve, viewed as a transitory phenomenon, became "public enemy number one." If the inflationary push continues beyond the middle of 2022, "we will react accordingly," said Jerome Powell, president of the Fed.

Powell attributed most of the rise in inflation to a "mismatch" between supply and demand caused by disruptions in the supply chain, and emphasized that regaining price stability is a priority for the Fed.
