🚚 Waymo has its first commercial autonomous trucking customer

Alphabet’s self-driving unit worked with J.B. Hunt, a trucking and logistics company, to test its Waymo Via technology in Texas. On Friday, the two announced they’re forming a strategic partnership with the hope of deploying a fully autonomous trucking operation within the state sometime in the next few years.

Waymo is just one of a handful of companies working on autonomous trucking technology. A few months before the company completed its June pilot with J.B. 🤢 Garbage and recyclables pile up as omicron takes its toll

The omicron variant is sickening so many sanitation workers around the US that some cities have had to delay or suspend garbage or recycling pickup, angering residents shocked that governments can’t perform this most basic of functions.

Cities including Atlanta, Nashville and Louisville are so shorthanded they have temporarily stopped collecting things like recyclable bottles, cans, paper and plastic, yard waste or oversized junk to focus on the grosser, smellier items.

Garbage collection has become just another of the many basic services disrupted by omicron. The Solid Waste Association of North America warned government officials and trash haulers in December to “plan now for staffing shortages.”

Block founder Jack Dorsey has announced on Twitter that the company is officially building an open bitcoin mining system. Dorsey first announced in October last year that the digital payments provider, then known as Square, was considering working on the project even before it rebranded itself. If you'll recall, Square changed its name to Block to tie its services together and to better represent the future of its business in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.

Dorsey is a big believer in cryptocurrency, and even once said that he believes bitcoin will replace the dollar one day.

US judge sets sentencing of Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell for June 28
A US judge ordered former Pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli to pay a $64.6 million fine and banned him from the pharmaceutical industry for life, court records revealed on Friday.

Shkreli gained notoriety in 2015 when Turing Pharmaceuticals raised the price of the medication Daraprim by more than 5,000 percent.

Daraprim is used to treat a common parasite that can cause debilitating or even fatal infections in individuals with a compromised immune system, such as those who have contracted HIV/AIDS.

The Supreme Court also ordered Shkreli to surrender his ownership of a $5 million stock account used as collateral for a now-revoked release bond.

🤑 The Salt Lake City man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was working as a flight attendant when travel delays between flights forced him to make an unexpected stop overnight at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

He told lottery officials that, since his home state of Utah does not have a lottery, he enjoys playing while traveling for work. It wasn’t until several days later that he checked his ticket.

Uncertain of how much he had won, he immediately went to Reddit where he posted, "I was one number away from winning the jackpot." Moments later, someone responded, "You won $50K!"

He proceeded to do research confirming the information that he received. He told lottery officials that he had put the winning ticket on the refrigerator until he could figure out how to get back to Kentucky. After taxes, he received a check for $35,500.

Whether or not Jake is considered a "real" boxer, the serious money he's pocketing is not up for debate -- his income in 2021 would have put him among the top-earning athletes last year ... making more than Canelo Alvarez, who reportedly brought in $34 million.

As for Logan -- who came in at #8 on Forbes' YouTube list -- he reportedly made $18 million in 2021 ... largely in part to his fight with Floyd Mayweather, his "Impaulsive" podcast, and other business opportunities.

🗣 Mike Pence has claimed that both the 6 January 2021 Capitol riot and Democrats' current drive to pass voting rights protections are "power grabs" that pose a threat to the nation's Constitution.

📃 In an op-ed for The Washington Post, Pence wrote that the Biden administration's plan "to end the filibuster to allow Democrats to pass a bill nationalising our elections would offend the founders' intention that states conduct elections just as much as what some of our most ardent supporters would have had me do one year ago".

The ex-vice president referred to last year's events on 6 January, when he refused to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
