😳 Two men are wanted for a brutal robbery that took place in the Jackson Heights neighbourhood of New York City's borough of Queens last week, where the victim was sucker punched from behind and knocked out cold.

The victim, a 43-year-old man, fell head first onto the ground unconscious. The pair then removed his wallet that contained $70 in cash and several credit cards, along with a Samsung cellular phone.

The suspects then fled the location on foot in an unknown direction.
🌷 The March for Life, the nation’s largest anti-abortion protest, could be last under Roe

Thousands of anti-abortion protesters rallied in the nation’s capital Friday with a growing sense of optimism that their goal was finally in reach: a sweeping rollback of abortion rights.

For decades, the annual protest against abortion was held as the Supreme Court has indicated it will allow states to impose tighter restrictions on abortion with a ruling in the coming months — and possibly overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that affirmed the constitutional right to an abortion.

Some abortion opponents posted on the event’s Facebook page that they will not attend because of COVID-19 vaccine mandates for people going to restaurants and other places in the District of Columbia.

💰 The IRS will start using facial recognition this summer

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is going to require users of its online tax payment services to create an identification account, which will involve sending off a selfie for facial recognition.

Security blogger Brian Krebs was the first to spot a message on the IRS website directing users to create an account with a company called ID.me. Creating an ID.me account involves submitting various pieces of official documentation, as well as taking a live video selfie.

An IRS spokesperson confirmed that users will need an ID.me account to make and view payments, as well as access their tax records.

Texas judge blocks enforcement of vaccine mandate for federal employees

On Friday, Judge Jeffrey Vincent Brown blocked the Biden administration from enforcing a vaccine mandate for federal employees, dealing another blow to President Joe Biden's campaign to increase the country's lackluster vaccination rate.

He judged the mandate an overstep of presidential authority and cited the recent Supreme Court decision to strike down a separate federal mandate that had applied to private sector workers.

A Nevada-based group called Feds for Medical Freedom filed the lawsuit in December. The group says they include 6,000 members who are employees or contractors for "nearly every federal agency.”

At a briefing Friday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the White House was confident in its legal authority.

💵 Digital currency gets a look from the Fed

A digital dollar backed by the US government might lead to faster money transfers, and be more accessible than the current banking system, according to a new paper from the Federal Reserve.

The paper is meant to act as a “first step in a discussion,” and doesn’t specifically advocate for creating a “central bank digital currency”. Still, the creation of a digital dollar would be a massive shift in how big a role the government could play in our finances.

The Fed, in its paper, makes clear that no specific design or technology has yet been proposed, saying it “will continue to explore a wide range of design options.” The reserve is currently experimenting with and exploring centralized, blockchain, and distributed methods of implementing a digital currency.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Moscow says it received false accusations from the US instead of a response to security guarantees.

"Instead of taking a pause and concentrating on a concrete response to the questions that were posed in the Russian documents, the White House and its Western allies launched an extremely toxic propaganda campaign, representing our country as an 'aggressor', 'opponent of civilised Europe', and 'threat' to international stability", the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
