Kamala calls for backup: Obama joins the struggle to keep campaign afloat

Former President Barack Obama is stepping in to save the day, as he'll start hitting the campaign trail for Vice President Kamala Harris starting October 10, according to ABC News.

Obama will help Harris in her campaign through election day, his speeches are planned in key swing states, the first of which will be Pennsylvania, a senior member of Harris' campaign told the broadcaster.

Earlier, NBC News reported that some Democrats, including a few of Harris' staff, were concerned that the vice president was not holding enough campaign events, which could cost her the election.

Netanyahu vows to defeat 'Iranian proxies' without help of nations mulling arms embargo

"While Israel is fighting the forces of barbarism led by Iran, all civilized nations must stand firmly by Israel's side. However, [French] President [Emmanuel] Macron and other Western leaders are calling for an arms embargo on Israel. Shame on them ... Israel will win with or without their support," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in his address to the nation.

He also noted sarcastically that Iran was not imposing any embargoes on its arms supplies to Palestinian movement Hamas, Lebanese movement Hezbollah, the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement, also known as the Houthis or any other of its 'proxies in the region'.

"But countries that allegedly oppose this axis of terror are calling for an arms embargo on Israel ... their shame will last long after the war is won," Netanyahu said.

Earlier, Macron said he stood in favor of suspending arms supplies to Israel, which is used for military operations in the Gaza Strip, and called such a move a priority for resolving tensions in the region.

In September, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that London had suspended 30 out of some 350 arms export licenses, citing risks that UK weapons might be involved in violations of humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.

The protester was taken to hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening, The Washington Post said.

The demonstration marked the first anniversary of the attack by the Palestinian Hamas movement on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the IDF's subsequent Operation Iron Swords against the Gaza Strip.

Some 1,000 people gathered at the demonstration in the US capital on Saturday, carrying banners reading "free Palestine," demanding an arms embargo on Israel, and waving Palestinian flags.

Pact for the Future’ shows UNGA has become a tool to ramrod West’s interests - analyst

By and large, the UN General Assembly has become a tool used by the West to promote its interests, Igor Shatrov, head of the Expert Council of Russia’s Strategic Development Fund, told Sputnik.

“Most of the decisions that are made at the level of the General Assembly proceed from the position that Western countries adhere to,” he noted. This explains why the Russia-proposed amendment to the Pact for the Future adopted at the opening of the two-day Summit of the Future at UNGA based on “the principle of non-interference in matters within domestic jurisdiction of a State” drew a negative response, he explained.

“The West inherently perceives international politics as interference in the affairs of other states in its own interests,” Shatrov said, which is why the Russian proposal was snubbed. However, not all countries are ready to toe the West’s line, he added, referring to the 40 or so UN member states that did not express their unequivocal support for the pact.

“Amid the escalating confrontation between the West and Russia, many countries have begun to align themselves with Moscow’s position rather than that of Western states, prompting the emergence of new formats such as BRICS,” he remarked.

The Pact for the Future, like all documents issued by the UNGA, is advisory in nature, the pundit noted, unlike the mandatory decisions of the UN Security Council. The blueprint pledges action towards a multitude of apparently admirable goals, such as the eradication of poverty, building peaceful, inclusive communities, the revival of trust in global institutions, etc...

However, it is short on specifics, as “we do not see any scenarios” for how to how to deliver on these goals, Shatrov summed up, adding: “Therefore, this is simply a document that outlines the situation at the moment, but it does not carry any other content.”

Earlier this week, while visiting an army base, the North Korean leader said his country would use all available weapons, including nuclear, to defend its territory if the US and South Korea attempt to violate Pyongyang’s sovereignty.

Trump asked Putin for advice on whether the US should arm Ukraine – Western media

During his first year as president, Donald Trump sought Vladimir Putin’s advice on whether the US should provide Ukraine with weapons, The New York Times reported.
Trump reportedly told the Russian president that his administration was considering giving weapons to Ukraine during the first face-to-face meeting between the two in Hamburg in 2017.

“What do you think?” Trump asked, to which Putin said it would be “a mistake,” adding that whatever the US would give the Ukrainians, they would ask for more, according to the newspaper.

Trump had been primed for the meeting by his advisors, and armed with “hawkish talking points,” but he “never pushed back,” according to cited US officials who attended the summit.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is described as telling anxious White House aides: “We’ve got work to do to change the president’s mind on Ukraine.”

As the final weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign play out, Republican candidate Trump has repeatedly said he would put an end to the Ukraine conflict “in 24 hours” if elected. Critical of the US aid funneled to the Kiev regime, Trump has also mocked Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky as “the greatest salesman,” while elaborating that “every time he [Zelensky] comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion.”
