Canada’s dissenting Liberal MPs seek to topple Trudeau
A faction of disgruntled lawmakers from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own governing Liberal Party is coordinating efforts to oust him as their leader, reported CBC News.
Trudeau has been teetering on the ropes since the humiliating by-election loss of two strongholds in Toronto (to the Conservatives) and Montreal (to Bloc Québécois).
Pressure to relinquish his hold on the Liberal Party has also grown amid his government’s free fall in the polls. At 41.6%, Pierre Poilievre and his Conservative Party are more than 20 points ahead of the Liberal Party, as reflected in numbers released by Nanos Research earlier in the month.
The top issues of concern for Canadians remain the soaring cost of living, housing affordability, skyrocketing prices and immigration.
Last month, the New Democratic Party (NDP) pulled the plug on its support for Trudeau, exiting a 2022 "supply and confidence" deal. The arrangement had offered confidence votes to the PM’s minority government, in exchange for support on key issues.
Despite being decimated in the polls, Trudeau has dug in, saying he is "not going anywhere."
The Liberal government has already survived two non-confidence votes. The Liberals, NDP and Bloc Quebecois voted against a Conservative motion that called for MPs to declare they have lost faith in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his nine-year-old government several weeks ago.
The mandate for Trudeau's government expires at the end of October 2025, and media reports have made no bones about the Liberals' defeat at the next general election.

US merc reportedly eliminated in special op zone
Nick Duckworth, a mercenary from the US, has been eliminated in the special operation zone, per reports on social media.
The gun for hire was reportedly taken out by a Russian FPV drone which hit his vehicle in the Zaporozhye region.
Duckworth was lucky enough to survive a missile strike by Russian troops targeting foreign militants in Kramatorsk in June 2023, media reports recalled.
A high-precision strike at the point of deployment of the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city of Kramatorsk, in the Donetsk People's Republic, had eliminated up to 20 foreign mercenaries and military advisers participating in a staff meeting at the time, the Russia's Defense Ministry reported then.
Russia has repeatedly underscored that all those foreigners who are fighting on the side of the Kiev regime in the special operation zone are legitimate targets of the Russian military.

Now everyone knows what 'second-hand embarrassment' feels like
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova couldn’t help commenting on a video from the Spanish Foreign Ministry meant to celebrate their national heritage – which begins with footage of Moscow’s Gorky Park.
The video was posted to mark Spain’s national day, which is celebrated on October 12.
But the slip-up didn’t escape the sharp eyes of social media users, who were quick to point out the “geographical” error.

Serbia is considering joining the BRICS group of emerging economies as an alternative to European Union membership, Vice Premier Aleksandar Vulin revealed in an interview with Berliner Zeitung.
Serbia will definitely attend the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan this month, Vulin said, adding that it would be irresponsible not to explore all possibilities, including BRICS membership.
If BRICS is attractive to other countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia or Turkey, why should Serbia's situation be any different, he asked, stressing that there was no doubt that BRICS had become a real alternative to the EU.

Ukrainian recruiters’ mass raids on public venues sign of serious problems at the front – expert
That's how the expert commented the much-publicized video and images coming out of Ukrainian cities over the past two days of draft officers engaging in mass raids on malls, nightclubs, concerts and other venues searching for fresh recruits.
The thuggish methods on display are par for the course, but the scale of the recent raids is a first, says Dudchak, who is also an expert with ‘Another Ukraine’ – a political and social movement consisting of Ukrainian politicians, journalists and others seeking to end the NATO-sponsored proxy war with Russia.
Desperate times may be calling for desperate measures, and the mobilization raids seem to be a sign of mounting problems on the battlefield, according to the observer, who pointed to the Russian military’s push to drive Ukrainian forces out of the Kursk region, and advances in Donetsk and Kharkov.
More broadly, Dudchak expects an overall shift in Kiev’s tactics, saying both the Zelensky regime’s rhetoric and practice will shift “from attempts to organize a counteroffensive to blind defense. It’s quite possible that this will suit them, and the West, well – holding on to what they have and freezing the front line.”

“Their problems are traditional: they don’t have enough personnel. They’re grabbing everyone, even those with an official exemption from service – which isn’t always possible to prove,” Institute of CIS Countries senior researcher Alexander Dudchak told Sputnik.

“Of course, we should not rejoice too early, because despite their serious failures, including places where some units are leaving the front line altogether, with such measures [mass raids and forced mobilization, ed.] they will be able to gather a crowd and hold the defense for some time. I can’t say for how long, but now they will have the opportunity to ‘solve’ their current problems at the expense of the crowd they recruit in this way,” Dudchak said.
