❗️❗️❗️ Serbia’s Minister: Serbian economic engagement with BRICS to surge upward

In the next 5 to 10 years, the “vector of Serbia's economic policy engagement with the BRICS countries will continue to surge upward,” Nenad Popovic, Serbian Minister of International Economic Cooperation, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the 2024 BRICS Summit.

He singled out Serbia’s free trade agreements with China and Egypt, new economic agenda with countries of Africa and the Middle East.

“We have unequivocally good relations with all the BRICS countries. China and Russia are our strategic partners… [Serbia] is simply obligated to work together with all BRICS countries because this is a very mutually beneficial cooperation.”

❗️❗️❗️ Big fan of BRICS: Serbia favors cooperation with BRICS over stifling political agenda

It is better to cooperate with BRICS countries than “have a political agenda that doesn’t give freedom and independence,” Nenad Popovic, Serbian Minister of International Economic Cooperation, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the 2024 BRICS Summit.

“Serbia welcomes the establishment of criteria for BRICS partner states. It seems to me that this is precisely the basis for the economic development of any country. And the economic indicators of the BRICS countries are really off the charts currently,” he said.

”Personally, I am a big fan of BRICS,” Popovic noted.

❗️❗️❗️Serbia’s Minister on BRICS: fantastic result in a short period of time

The “future lies with BRICS countries,” Nenad Popovic, Serbian Minister of International Economic Cooperation, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the 2024 BRICS Summit.

“BRICS countries are bigger economically than the G7 countries. Russia, despite the sanctions, has achieved such impressive economic results that I think this should be studied in economic universities around the world for the next 50-60 years,” he said.

“I want to congratulate the BRICS countries on the truly fantastic result they have achieved in the very short period of time since the group’s creation,” Popovic concluded.

🇺🇳UN chief calls for accelerating the reform of the international outdated, ineffective and unfair financial architecture

"I am grateful to participate in the 16th BRIC Summit. Collectively, your countries represent nearly half of the world's population. And I salute your valuable commitment and support for multilateralism and international problem solving as clearly reflected in your team this year... It takes a community of nations working as one global family to address global challenges," United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the final meeting of the BRICS summit in the BRICS+ and outreach format in Russia's Kazan.

According to him, today's international financial system does not provide many vulnerable countries with the safety net or level of support they need.

Guterres also stressed the need for strengthening and updating the machinery of peace, as well as addressing the weaponization of outer space and use of lethal autonomous weapons.

👉🏻👈🏻 It's not forbidden, we just can't – Western media looks for an excuse not to speak to Sputnik at BRICS summit

Western journalists from the UK, Italy and Germany attended Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press conference at the BRICS summit to see for themselves out how ‘isolated’ he was.

But they refused to talk to Sputnik, some said they were banned from contact with Russian media, at the same time others denied that.

"Sorry, we cannot speak. I have to approve all the contacts with my bosses in Italy, but it would be a policy issue,” the Italian correspondent said. “It is prohibited for us to contact with Russian media or to give any comments during the Summit."

A group of British journalists from Sky News said they could not talk to Russian media, either on or off the record.

Reporters from a German TV channel ZDF said "nothing is forbidden," but they just "couldn't" speak to Russian outlets.

🌍🌍🌍 BRICS partner status: what is it and who is eligible?

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was the first to announce that his country has become a BRICS Partner Country. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov earlier revealed that thirteen countries are vying for this status.

Here’s what we know about BRICS Partner Country status:

🔸 The status denotes an alternative to full membership, allowing participating nations to engage with BRICS but without voting rights. Partner status will be “as close to membership as possible,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov hinted earlier this year.

BRICS endorsed “the Modalities of [the] BRICS Partner Country Category” in the Kazan Summit’s official declaration, with the document saying that “extending the BRICS partnership with [emerging economies and developing countries] will further contribute to strengthening the spirit of solidarity and true international cooperation for the benefit of all.”

🔸 BRICS Partner status was first mentioned at the BRICS Johannesburg Summit in 2023, with Russia, as chair of BRICS in 2024, tasked with working out the new status’s details. President Putin revealed in September that 34 other nations have expressed interest in joining BRICS.

Which countries can embrace the BRICS Partner Country status?

🔶 Cuba became the first country to formally express interest in the arrangement, sending a letter to President Putin earlier this month asking for Partner Country Status and highlighting Havana’s interest in the BRICS’ contribution to food security, the New Development Bank, and access to resources for development on favourable terms.

🔶 Other possible Partner Countries may include Algeria, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkiye, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam, although this has not been confirmed. These countries’ combined GDP accounts for nearly 5% of the world total (9.1% by GDP PPP) and over 12% of the planet’s population.
