❗️Two time Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin out of Beijing Olympic slalom
Bill Gates is to release a book called “How to Prevent the Next Pandemic,” in which he offers advice on how to avoid a cataclysm in the future like the one caused by COVID-19.
“Whenever I see the suffering that Covid has created – every time I read about the latest death toll or hear about someone who lost their job or drive by a school that is closed – I can’t help but think: we don’t have to do this again,” he says.
Among all the information in the book, Gates also mentions his conversations with the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci.

❗️The White House has approved a Pentagon plan for US troops in Poland to help Americans flee Ukraine if the situation escalates, in order to avoid repeating the chaotic Afghanistan evacuation, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing US officials.
Some of the 1,700 troops being deployed to Poland will begin setting up checkpoints and tent camps near the border with Ukraine in coming days to host possible evacuees.
The US forces will only provide logistics support to help coordinate the evacuation of Americans from Poland, after they arrive there from Ukraine, "likely by land and without U.S. military support," the report added.

🛰 SpaceX satellites falling out of orbit after solar storm
Spacex’s newest fleet of satellites is tumbling out of orbit after being struck by a solar storm. Up to 40 of the 49 small satellites launched last week have either reentered the atmosphere and burned up, or are on the verge of doing so, the company said in an online update Tuesday night. SpaceX said a geomagnetic storm last Friday made the atmosphere denser, which increased the drag on the Starlink satellites, effectively dooming them.
There is no danger from these newly falling satellites, either in orbit or on the ground, according to the company. Each satellite weighs less than 575 pounds (260 kilograms). Astronomers are distressed that these mega constellations will ruin nighttime observations from Earth.

⚖ Archives asks Justice Department to investigate Trump’s handling of White House records
The alleged referral from the National Archives came amid recent revelations that officials recovered 15 boxes of materials from the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence that weren’t handed back into the government as they should have been, and that Trump had turned over other White House records that had been torn up. Archive officials suspected Trump had possibly violated laws concerning the handling of government documents and reached out to the Justice Department, people familiar with the matter relayed to the Washington Post.
It also could be a legal problem if significant amounts of classified material were stored at Mar-a-Lago, though it is hardly unheard of for former government officials to have such material outside appropriate government storage channels.
Two Trump advisers have said they were aware of no investigation, and that their conversations had been cordial with the Archive officials.

🏛 Marjorie Taylor Greene accuses Pelosi of sending 'Gazpacho Police'
In an interview with the "Real America with Dan Ball" podcast, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made an odd choice of words during her rant against the Capitol Police. "Not only do we have the D.C. Jail, which is the D.C. Gulag, but now we have Nancy Pelosi's Gazpacho Police,” she said on Wednesday. Greene's gaffe likely conflated the Gestapo, the dreaded Nazi secret police, with gazpacho - a traditional and delicious Spanish cold soup made of raw, blended vegetables.
Greene has repeatedly used Nazi comparisons to verbally attack policies and people she disagrees with, once even claiming that congressional mask mandates were akin to the Holocaust. Her speech quickly drew widespread mockery in social media.

🚫 Nancy Pelosi is working on a stock trading ban for lawmakers and senior congressional staff
Pelosi and House Democratic leaders reportedly want to amend the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, a 2012 law designed to combat insider trading by requiring timely disclosure of stock transactions.
Senior Republicans, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, have also declared support for the reform, with McCarthy saying he would introduce a ban if Republicans win control of the House in November's midterms.
The ban is also expected to include new restrictions on investments for federal judges. Last month, Pelosi made it clear that she wanted to see the judiciary held to the same standard as Congress.
