🇺🇸 Jemele Hill, a former ESPN anchor who called ex-president of the US Donald Trump “a White supremacist who has largely surrounded himself with other white supremacists,” will now host a show on CNN’s upcoming streaming service.

When asked on ABC’s “The View” if she still believed that Trump and his supporters are white supremacists, Hill said she stands by what she said, adding that she referred to their privilege “to distance and disassociate themselves from certain issues.”

Sometimes simply doing your job can land you in hot water. In upstate New York, a man was kicked out of a school board meeting by guards for refusing to wear a mask. Even though the guards were just following the state mandate, they were still blasted for doing what they are paid for, making sure people follow the rules on the school premises.

⚡️The White House claims Russia may invade Ukraine during the Olympics, starting with "aerial bombing and missile attacks."

"We are in the window when an invasion could begin at any time should Vladimir Putin decide to order it. It could begin during the Olympics despite a lot of speculation that it will only happen after the Olympics," National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said.

He also urged all Americans in Ukraine to leave in the next 24 to 48 hours, while adding that the US is “not saying” that President Putin has made a final decision to “invade” Ukraine.

🪐 SpaceX’s Elon Musk said Thursday that the first orbital flight of his towering Starshipthe world’s most powerful rocket ever built — could come in another month or two. While he anticipates failures, he’s confident Starship will reach orbit by the end of this year.

🌓 NASA plans to use the fully reusable Starship to land astronauts on the moon as early as 2025. Musk, meanwhile, hopes to deploy a fleet of Starships to create a city on Mars, hauling equipment and people there.

🚀 The full-size Starships are massive — taller than NASA’s past and present moon rockets, with approximately double the liftoff thrust. Musk estimates a Starship launch could wind up costing less than $10 million — maybe even just a few million dollars with a high flight rate, which would bring down prices.

🚗 NASCAR’s stars unify to create formal drivers’ council

Top drivers have once again unified to form an independent council to gain a collective voice in decisions that affect the sport. The Drivers Advisory Council that was announced on Friday is a more organized effort than a previous attempt to unify in 2014.

A board of directors has been established, and retired driver and current NBC Sports analyst Jeff Burton agreed to oversee the effort. The board is comprised of seven members that represent teams from the front and back of the Cup Series starting grid. Each board member will serve as a representative to a smaller group of drivers.

Among the drivers immediate goals are addressing safety, improved on-track competition and the overall fan experience.

👮🏻‍♂️ 9 officers hurt in ‘ambush,’ shootout at Phoenix home

A man ambushed a police officer who responded to a call at a Phoenix home early Friday, shooting him several times. The assailant then rained more gunfire on other officers who tried to rescue a baby that had been placed outside.

In all, five officers were shot, including four who were wounded while trying to take the baby to safety. Four more officers were injured by shrapnel or ricocheting bullets, Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Williams said.

Eight officers were wounded by bullets or shrapnel, all were expected to survive, and the baby was unharmed, police said.

After a barricade situation, the suspect was found dead inside the home, and a woman who was found critically injured succumbed to her injuries, police said in a statement.

🌌 NASA’s new space telescope sees 1st starlight, takes selfie

The new space telescope has captured its first starlight and even taken a selfie of its giant, gold mirror.

All 18 segments of the primary mirror on the James Webb Space Telescope seem to be working properly nearly two months into the mission, officials said Friday.

Over the next few months, the hexagonal mirror segments — each the size of a coffee table — will be aligned and focused as one, allowing science observations to begin by the end of June. The $10 billion infrared observatory — considered the successor to the aging Hubble Space Telescope — will seek light from the first stars and galaxies that formed in the universe nearly 14 billion years ago.

US advances $6 bln nuclear plant program

The US Department of Energy said on Friday it is seeking input from utilities, communities and advocates as it develops its new program to boost struggling nuclear power plants with $6 billion in cash.

Nuclear power generates power virtually free of the emissions responsible for climate change, but the industry has lost 12 reactors since 2013 amid competition from renewable energy and plants that burn plentiful natural gas. Under the program, owners or operators of US nuclear power reactors can bid on cash credits to help support their continued operations.

The United States has spent billions of dollars on a program to permanently store the deadly waste from nuclear power plants at Nevada's Yucca Mountain, a decades-long project ultimately rejected amid pushback from the state.

💰 Twitter aims for edge in Big Tech's crypto contest with OpenNode investment

Tech heavyweight Twitter invested an undisclosed sum in OpenNode's $20 million funding round that valued the bitcoin payments provider at $220 million, per CoinDesk.

Last year, Twitter confirmed its commitment to integrate bitcoin into its services. Twitter launched a dedicated crypto team in November 2021, and posted a job listing last month for a senior crypto role to "shape the future of crypto at Twitter."

Twitter also lets users in the US (except Hawaii and New York) and El Salvador tip fellow tweeters with bitcoin. Twitter's Tip Jar lets users send fiat money and bitcoin via third-party payment services like PayPal and Cash App.
