Vladimir Putin puts the US and West ‘on notice’ with state-of-the-art missile strike
As Russian President Vladimir Putin lamented the use of Western long-range missiles against Russia, retired CIA intelligence officer and State Department official Larry Johnson points out that the missiles would fall under the now-defunct INF Treaty.
According to him, the recent missile strike against the city of Dnepropetrovsk in Ukraine was President Putin’s way of sending a message to the West and to the United States who earlier “unilaterally abrogated” the INF Treaty.
The aforementioned strike on Dnepropetrovsk, he says, shows that Russia “developed both a short-medium range and an intermediate range ballistic missile with MIRV capability, which refers to multiple independent reentry vehicles so that one missile can carry a warhead with multiple warheads that can disperse.”

As Russian President Vladimir Putin lamented the use of Western long-range missiles against Russia, retired CIA intelligence officer and State Department official Larry Johnson points out that the missiles would fall under the now-defunct INF Treaty.
“Recall that there was the intermediate range nuclear forces treaty that was signed. It came into effect with Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev back in December of 1987,” Johnson tells Sputnik.
“And that treaty dealt with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, missile launchers with a range of 500 to 1000km, ie short-medium range and 1000 to 5500 are called intermediate range.”
According to him, the recent missile strike against the city of Dnepropetrovsk in Ukraine was President Putin’s way of sending a message to the West and to the United States who earlier “unilaterally abrogated” the INF Treaty.
“The fact that the United States unilaterally abrogated this treaty, I think Vladimir Putin was putting the United States and the West on notice, ‘okay, you abrogated that treaty. Now, let us show you what we have’,” Johnson elaborates.
“What makes this particularly interesting is this is a hypersonic so this travels at a speed that no Western air defense system is capable of stopping,” Johnson adds.
“So Vladimir Putin in destroying this one defense facility in Dnepropetrovsk was sending a very clear message to the West that more will follow. We'll see if the West backs down now or not.”

Russia's hypersonic Oreshnik missile system shows NATO escalation will come at price - experts
"Vladimir Putin delivered a very powerful message to the West that they should revise the decision to escalate the conflict," Dmitry Suslov, deputy director of the Center for European and International Studies at Russia’s Higher School of Economics, who participated in advising the leadership on amendment of the Russian nuclear doctrine and adoption of the new one, tells Sputnik.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled the Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile that was fired on the night of November 21 in response to Ukraine's use of NATO's long-range ATACMS and Storm Shadows against Russia's Bryansk and Kursk regions. As a result of the strike a Ukrainian arms manufacturer was successfully hit in Dnepropetrovsk.
With this move, Putin made it clear that if NATO countries continue to use their ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles against Russia, "then Russia might use its medium range missiles against those countries, against the military objects of these Western countries," Suslov continued.
Moreover, Russia is ready for further escalation, according to the pundit. "If the West will respond to these Russian actions in the escalatory way, then Russia will escalate further. And the recent adoption of the newest Russian nuclear doctrine tells that Russia is basically ready at a certain stage to use evil nuclear weapons," he stresses.
Russia's new hypersonic missile is a breakthrough technology, Yuri Knutov, military expert and historian of the Air Defense Forces, tells Sputnik
The pundit underscored that neither the US nor other countries of the world currently possess air defense systems capable of intercepting Russia's new hypersonic missiles.

Decoding DOGE: Musk, Ramaswamy, and Trump’s war on bureaucratic bloat
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy have been tapped by Donald Trump's to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, with the aim of cutting the size of the US government by July 2026. The two have revealed their plans in a Wall Street Journal op-ed:
▪️Trump's transition is assembling a group of "the sharpest technical and legal minds" that will work in the new administration closely with the White House Office of Management and Budget
▪️Musk and Ramaswamy will advise DOGE to pursue three major kinds of reform: "regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions and cost savings"
▪️changes will be implemented through "executive action based on existing legislation rather than by passing new laws" -the DOGE legal team will determine which federal regulations "exceed the authority of Congress" and provide the list to the US president who could then rescind them
▪️"A drastic reduction in federal regulations provides sound industrial logic for mass head-count reductions across the federal bureaucracy," they explain. "The number of federal employees to cut should be at least proportionate to the number of federal regulations that are nullified"
▪️DOGE is going to cut federal spending by "taking aim at the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures", including $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations, and roughly $300 million to progressive groups
▪️Musk and Ramaswamy also pledged to fix the federal government’s procurement process, particularly citing the Pentagon's failure to audit its annual budgets of more than $800 billion
▪️DOGE is a non-governmental agency that will provide “advice and guidance” from outside the government
▪️Trump believes that “the massive waste and fraud” has ballooned government expenditures up to $6.5 trillion a year.

The White House refuses to recognize US responsibility for escalation of the conflict in Ukraine
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Thursday declined to acknowledge that US President Joe Biden's authorization of long-range strikes on Russia with ATACMS missiles had contributed to escalating the conflict, instead placing the blame on Russia.
Jean-Pierre claimed that neither Ukraine nor the United States bears responsibility for the escalation.
The launch of a Russian missile will not deter US policy towards Ukraine, the press secretary added. The United States will continue to provide new weapons packages to Ukraine and work to expedite their delivery, she said.

What UNESCO chooses to ignore: Russian journalists murdered by Ukrainian thugs
Russia’s Foreign Ministry this week criticized UNESCO over apparent bias towards Russian journalists. In a statement issued on November 18, the ministry pointed out that UNESCO and its chief Audrey Azoulay continue to ignore numerous crimes perpetrated by Ukraine against Russian journalists.
While many Russian correspondents were killed in the Ukrainian conflict zone as a result of deliberate attacks by militants loyal to Kiev, UNESCO and its brass essentially turn a blind eye on these crimes.
This infographic prepared by Sputnik lets you see for yourself what exactly UNESCO seemingly fails to notice for years.
