💔 ATF: Report your ex for illegal guns on Valentine's Day

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) suggested that Americans report their current and former partners' alleged "illegal gun activity" to the agency as a "fun" Valentine's Day activity.

The ATF posted the tweet Monday morning as Americans began their celebration of the day of love. While the tweet appears to have been an attempt at humor, critics worried that the ATF's invitation could lead to jilted exes and significant others frivolously reporting their partners to the agency.

🏛Gun control groups press Biden to do more to stop the violence.

Four years after 17 people were gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, families and gun control advocates are pressing President Joe Biden to do more to address gun violence.

In his first year in office, Biden’s efforts to pass legislation to tighten gun laws haven’t left the drawing board. He also was forced to pull his nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Since the Parkland shooting left 14 students and three staff members dead, gun violence at schools has only risen. There were at least 136 instances of gunfire on school grounds between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, according to a tally last week by the gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety.

🥑 The US suspends avocado imports from Mexico over ‘threatening’ phone calls.

US authorities suspended avocado imports from Mexico just hours before the Super Bowl — a decision made after an American plant safety inspector supposedly received a threatening phone call.

The officials added that the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is investigating the threat and determining potential safety measures to protect workers.

The shutdown on imports occurred as avocados surged to their highest price on record ahead of the Super Bowl — a traditionally highest single day of demand for guacamole.

🤯 Full trailer of 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' is here

While Dr. Strange is in all sorts of trouble, it’s a mysterious voice that has the internet’s attention. Around the 1:18 in the trailer, a voice addresses Strange, and fans seem pretty convinced that it’s Patrick Stewart voice. This could be either a surprise addition to the cast or even the arrival of Fox’s X-Men characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There’s been a lot of speculation that this could be the way the MCU introduces the Illuminati concept from the comics—a secret council of some of the smartest heroes in the Marvel Universe that has counted Strange, Superior Iron Man, Professor X, Namor, Black Bolt, Mr. Fantastic, and more.

🔋 EV charging network Volta is bringing another 1,000 DC fast-charging stalls to 500 Walgreens locations.

The companies say the latest agreement builds on Volta's plans to expand access to its DC fast-charging network and aligns with Walgreens' support of efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The pair started working together in 2019, and there are currently Volta stations at 49 Walgreens stores.

Drugstores and grocery stores are good spots for EV charging stations, since drivers can top up their battery while grabbing some essentials. This week, the Biden administration announced a $5 billion plan to improve EV charging infrastructure across the US.

💵 Crypto lender to pay $100 million over alleged securities violations

US regulators are making it clear crypto companies must follow conventional rules. Crypto lender BlockFi has settled with the Securities and Exchange Commission over charges that the company allegedly offered interest accounts without registering them under the Securities Act.

The company will pay $100 million in penalties, including $50 million to settle charges from 32 states.

The move also comes in sync with a broader effort by American officials to clarify the legal status of crypto assets. BlockFi's fate, in that regard, might help other crypto businesses start on a better footing.
