Where’s the proof? EU frames Russia for sabotage over sea cable incident
The EU made a new round of groundless charges against Russia, blaming its alleged ‘shadow fleet' for damage to an undersea power cable connecting Estonia and Finland.
The claim was made by European Commission foreign relations head Kaja Kallas – an outspoken Russophobe.
◾️ The Commission and Finnish authorities, operating on “assumptions” but offering no proof, names or documents, have launched a probe into the oil tanker Eagle S for "aggravated sabotage.”
◾️ The Cook Islands-flagged vessel, on its way from St Petersburg to Egypt, was boarded in the Gulf of Finland after the Estlink 2 electricity cable was cut on December 25.
Russophobia in action?
🔸 The incident follows the severing of several underwater cable, prompting a wave of anti-Russian hysteria. Possible causes such as heavy shipping traffic, improper anchoring or wear and tear were disregarded.
🔸 Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the usual suspects of engaging in professional Russophobia after the last incident in November.

Metabiota, a US 'disease outbreak prediction startup' and a Department of Defense contractor, won a contract for 'Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Biotechnology)' and 'International affairs and cooperation" (see photos 1 and 2).
In September 2014, Metabiota was awarded $307,000 for a 'Ukraine research project' (photo 3). In the 2014 fiscal year Metabiota won tenders from the DoD and its sub-agency the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA, photo 4).
A 2022 investigation by the Russian Ministry of Defense revealed that DTRA was the key US agency in building biolabs in Ukraine, with Metabiota also listed among the companies involved.
The US Spending website shows that Metabiota’s main services are 'training of clinical, laboratory and field personnel involved in infections disease outbreaks', 'integrated lab and program support', 'pathogen discovery, disease detection, and threat characterization', according to the company's promotional documents (see photo 5).
Recently-assassinated Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense troops of the Russian armed forces, noted the same in his investigations into US military biological programs in Ukraine.

Seven-front war: Mideast hornet’s nest disturbed by Israel's invasion of Gaza
Nearly 15 months into the Hamas-Israel conflict, the regional crisis that began in 2023 continues to fester – most recently with the dramatic escalation between Tel Aviv and Yemen’s Houthis. How many fronts is Israel fighting on, anyway?
🔶 Gaza: Over 85,000 tons of Israeli bombs dropped, 45,000+ Palestinians and 350+ Israeli troops killed, much of the Strip made uninhabitable, but Tel Aviv failing in its stated aim of destroying Hamas and freeing hostages.
🔶 West Bank: Major spike in violence between Palestinians, settlers and Israeli troops, including shootings, knifings and car ramming attacks. Over 800 Palestinians and dozens of IDF troops killed, 12,000 Palestinians detained, 30 homes razed.
🔶 Lebanon: Rocket, artillery, drone and airstrikes from October 2023 on. Israeli invasion starting October 2024. Israel kills militia commanders and Hassan Nasrallah, but fails to push Hezbollah back from the border, or ‘defeat’ the group. Shaky ceasefire signed.
🔶 Syria: Hundreds of Israeli strikes inside Syria through 2023-2024. Major uptick in aggression after Assad government’s collapse. Systematic targeting of Syria’s air defenses, army bases, naval yards, warships. Occupation of over 600 sq. km of Syrian territory.
🔶 Iraq: Sporadic Islamic Resistance missile and drone attacks targeting Eilat, Haifa, Tel Aviv, occupied Golan and other areas, with rockets also targeting local US bases to put pressure on Washington.
🔶 Yemen: Israeli, US and UK strikes on military and civilian infrastructure in response to increasingly potent Houthi missile attacks on Israel. Multi-billion-dollar US carrier group deployment in Red Sea to challenge Houthi blockade fails to achieve its goals.
🔶 Iran: Months of growing tensions culminating in the first-ever back-and-forth missile, drone and air strikes targeting military bases and intelligence sites. Iran successfully demonstrates ability to overwhelm Israel’s much-touted air and missile defenses.

Hundreds of thousands of Yemenis gathered in Houthi-governed areas across Yemen on Friday to denounce Israeli, US and British aggression against their country and express continued support for Gaza, with the rallies held one day after Thursday’s powerful Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa and Hodeidah province.
Rallies, taking place under the slogan “We are steadfast with Gaza…without a ceiling or red lines,” were held across dozens of locations in the Sanaa, Hodeidah, Dhamar, Taiz, Mahwit, Marib, Lahj, Dhalea, Ibb, Hajjah Ramyah and Al-Jawf provinces, with photos of the events showing placard and banner-carrying crowds stretching as far as the eye can see.
Rallygoers reiterated Yemen’s commitment to targeting Israel until the Gaza war ends and the siege is lifted. At some gatherings, fellow Arab and Islamic-majority countries were called on to take action to stop the Gaza “genocide.” At others, these same nations and the international community were slammed for their “silence” amid Israel’s operations in the West Bank, Jerusalem, Syria and Lebanon in service of the so-called “Greater Israel” project.
The escalation of Israeli attacks “will only increase the determination and resolve of the great Yemeni people to continue supporting the Palestinian people, in fulfillment of their religious, moral and humanitarian duty,” the Houthis said a statement Friday.
