US President-elect Donald Trump has gone to his social media platform, Truth Social, to share two maps showing Canada as part of America. "Oh Canada!" Trump wrote in one of the posts with the distorted map.
Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party swiftly responded by posting on X an image of the map of Canada (in red) and America (in grey), with the innoscriptions “Not the United States” and “the United States," respectively. “For anyone who may be confused,” the post read.
Trudeau himself hit back at Trump as he wrote on X that “there isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.”
This came after Trump renewed his offer of making Canada the 51st state of America and promised to use "economic force" to absorb Canada into the US.
The US president-elect earlier used Trudeau's announcement of his plan to step down as PM and Liberal Party leader to reiterate his stance that Canada should become the 51st state of America.

"Because Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially drawn line, and you take a look at what that looks like, and it would also be much better for national security—don’t forget, we basically protect Canada,” Trump told reporters.

The explosives found among the mail were sent from Ukraine and were supposed to get to Georgia's capital, Tbilisi, the Primul in Moldova TV channel claims, citing police sources.
On Tuesday, an explosive object was detected and defused at the Chisinau International Airport during mail processing; no one was injured.

Iran, as part of the air defense exercises that are being conducted to protect the Natanz nuclear facility in Isfahan province, showed footage of the launch of an Iranian air defense missile system, known as the "object or anti-aircraft missile 358" for the first time.
The 358 is a surface-to-air anti-aircraft missile with the properties of a fully domestically (Iranian) made barrage munition.
The rocket is equipped with an infrared homing head and an autopilot, which provides special capabilities: the 358 is capable of detecting a target immediately after launch, visiting it, and after detection, capturing and subsequently defeating it.
The missile is designed to combat strategic UAVs, attack aircraft, helicopters, and other aerial targets.

Ukraine will likely lose in the conflict with Russia within “the next 12 to 18 months” if there is not a massive new US aid in the near future, the hawkish American neocon analyst Robert Kagan cries.
He also admits that Washington’s rosy forecasts about Russia’s economic collapse have proven futile.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is nearing its strategic military defeat, according to Kagan.
However, he acknowledges that Trump and his team are not interested in Ukraine, something that clearly keeps him on pins and needles.
Kagan, who is married to former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, is one of the founders of the former neoconservative think tank, Project for a New American Century, notorious for “promoting US global leadership” and blatant militarism.
Russian officials have repeatedly stressed that no amount of foreign aid to the Kiev regime can affect the ultimate course of the special military operation, while adding that such moves would only fuel the conflict.

Ukraine's Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, has registered a bill that provides for a direct ban on the transit of Russian oil through the country by all types of transport infrastructure, including the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Earlier on January 1, Russia's Gazprom announced that it no longer has the technical or legal ability to transit gas through Ukraine following the expiration of the five-year contract. As a result, the price of natural gas in the European market has increased by 20%.
