🚨Violence grips the capital of Chad: check out what happened

▪️Gunfire erupted near the presidential complex in N'Djamena on January 8, 2025.

▪️Around 24 armed fighters from the jihadist militant group Boko Haram* attempted to storm the presidential complex, according to Al Arabiya.

▪️President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno was inside the presidential office at the time of the attack.

▪️Roads leading to the presidential complex were blocked, and armored vehicles along with special units were deployed for a counter-terrorism operation, Tchad 24 TV channel reported.

What did the Chadian government say?

🔊The infiltrators were overpowered by the presidential guard, with at least 18 assailants killed. A member of the security forces also died, according to government spokesman and Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah.

🔊“Nothing serious has happened... This whole attempt at destabilization has been thwarted," Koulamallah stated in a social media video post. He also noted that the attackers were “probably not” rebels.

A new Ipsos poll shows 81% of Canadians support PM Justin Trudeau’s decision to step down, with over half (51%) strongly approving. Even 70% of Liberal voters back his resignation, compared to 88% of Conservative voters.

The Liberal Party’s support remains near historic lows at 20%, while the Conservatives lead with 46%. The poll also reveals 57% of Canadians wouldn’t consider voting for the Liberals even with Trudeau gone, the pollster found.

"Almost four in ten (38%) Canadians give Trudeau an F [Fail] when rating his overall performance as Prime Minister. Only 4% give him an A," the study also found.
