🔥 A fire aboard an abandoned car-carrier cargo ship in the Atlantic Ocean may have intensified due to the electric-vehicle batteries on automobiles, including those from Porsche and Bentley.
The 650-foot-long Felicity Ace — said to be carrying some 4,000 cars — caught fire in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean last Wednesday while transiting from Germany to the United States.
João Mendes Cabeças, a captain at the nearest port in the Azorean island of Faial, said over the weekend that lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles on board the ship were "keeping the fire alive." Cabeças explained that specialty equipment would be needed to extinguish the blaze.

Virgin Hyperloop lays off half of its employees, pivots away from passenger travel
The futuristic transportation company confirmed that 111 people had been laid off. The company is now "changing direction" due to what it says are global supply chain issues and "all the changes due to Covid," additionally claiming that there was strong customer interest in a cargo-based service through its hyperloop pods, which are jetted through vacuum tubes at over 600 mph.
Virgin Hyperloop, which has raised around $450 million in funding, is the only company of its kind to have completed a successful passenger ride using the technology.
DP World, a logistics provider owned by the Dubai government, and a majority stakeholder in Virgin Hyperloop, began working on a cargo system using the company's hyperloop technologies in 2020.

💵 JPMorgan now expects the Federal Reserve to hike interest rates for 9 straight meetings
Central banks hiking interest rates more quickly than investors previously expected is now the most significant threat to otherwise healthy markets and economies, analysts at the bank said in a note this weekend.
The analysts, led by chief economist Bruce Kasman, said they now think the Fed will raise rates by 25 basis points (0.25 percentage points) at every meeting until March 2023 – nine hikes in total.
Global stocks have fallen sharply in 2022 already, largely because investors have rapidly revised up their expectations for the number and pace of Fed interest rate hikes. The S&P 500 was down 8.8% for the year as of Friday's close, with the Russia-Ukraine crisis causing further volatility.
