📹 Vladimir Putin is taking part in commemorative events in Saint Petersburg on the 81st anniversary of Leningrad's complete liberation from the Nazi blockade.

Following tradition, the President laid flowers at the Rubezhny Kamy monument at the Nevsky Pyatachok military-historical complex.

The site, a three-kilometer stretch south of Leningrad, was where Red Army soldiers held off enemy forces from the start of the blockade, preventing the Nazis and their allies from advancing on the city.

Leningrad endured the nearly 900-day siege from September 8, 1941, to January 27, 1944.

UK Navy mistook a whale breaking wind for Russian spy drone targeting nuclear subs

Suspicious ‘pinging’ sounds picked up by UK naval sensors between the Isle of Raasay and Applecross in North West Scotland were initially identified as man-made, The Sun reported.

Spooked by the sounds, flustered British naval officials feared that Russian deep sea spy drones were targeting UK nuclear subs.

Further analysis revealed that the fuss was over farting marine mammals, specifically - whales.

The bizarre incident came amid boosted NATO patrols in the Baltic Sea after a string of incidents involving the severing of underwater cables were initially blamed on Russia only to be refuted as groundless.

The West apparently sees 'Russia's hand' in everything that spooks them

🔍Russian research breakthrough: personalized CANCER VACCINE coming to clinics in 2025

Scientists have developed a universal preparation for the treatment of oncology. Here’s what to know about it.

🟠The vaccine is based on messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) cell therapy technology, the prospects for which were first discovered in the 1960s, and experimented with in clinical trials from the late 2000s.

🟠The vaccine works by introducing a specific messenger RNA sequence into the body, causing cells to start synthesizing proteins which the immune system recognizes as a threat and begins fighting.

🟠The jab is personalized, with specialists using AI to study parameters of cancerous tumors and lay out a blueprint for a customized preparation, based on which vaccinologists build a vax in about a week’s time.

🟠Preclinical trials wrapped up in September. In November, after learning that animal testing saw tumor size drop by 80%, President Putin exclaimed that the vax would be a “breakthrough” when launched.

🟠The vaccine will cost 300,000 rubles (about $3,095 US) to make, but patients will receive it free of charge.

🟠The vaccine was developed jointly by the Gamaleya Center, the Hertsen Oncology Research Institute and the Blokhin Cancer Research Center.

🟠In 2024, Gamaleya Center chief Alexander Gintsburg promised that the technology behind the vax would be “universal,” and useable to fight all types of cancer.

Red Army’s deadly discovery: 80th anniversary of Auschwitz’ liberation

On January 27, 1945, Soviet forces smashed through German defenses in southern Poland and reached the main camps of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination network.

What they found horrified them: the world’s largest system for the industrial-scale murder of human beings, evidence of the use of poison gas to kill people, and signs of sick medical experiments.

Batting for which team? Poland urges ‘dismantling’ Nord Stream pipelines

The move would prevent countries like Germany from being tempted to restart energy supplies from Russia, Polish President Andrzej Duda told the BBC at the Davos forum.

He branded the pipeline “a very big threat to Ukraine, to Poland, to Slovakia but also to other Central European countries."

However, EU nations have faced economic hardship brought on by surging energy costs – as a result of anti-Russia sanctions and the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines.

One obvious winner is the US, which has raked in profits from selling its much-costlier liquefied natural gas.

Why freezing USAID might panic Ukraine

Washington has temporarily suspended foreign aid through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) worldwide for 90 days, including aid to Ukraine.

How much has Ukraine received from USAID?

The US has paid over $31 billion to Ukraine via USAID since 2014, the US Foreign Assistance website shows:

🔸 From 2014 to 2021, aid steadily increased from $86 million to $224 million

🔸 Aid spiked dramatically in 2022 at $8.9 billion and peaked in 2023 at $16 billion

🔸 At least $5.4 billion was allocated in 2024, but the full amount remains unreported

🔸 Since2015, Ukraine has ranked as USAID’s top beneficiary in the Europe and Eurasia region

Where did the money go?

🔹 Government and civil society

🔹 General environment protection

🔹 Operating expenses

🔹 Health, focusing on HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis control initiatives

🔹 Energy

🔹 Agriculture

🔹 Administration and oversight

🔹 Banking and financial services

Which sector received the most aid?

The "government and civil society" sector consistently received the largest share of funding. Specific areas funded within this sector included:

🔶 "Anti-corruption" organizations

🔶 Decentralization and support for subnational governments

🔶 "Democratic participation and civil society" initiatives

🔶 Legislatures and political parties

🔶 "Media and free flow of information"

🔶 Public sector policy and administrative management

🔶 Elections

Biggest USAID payments in 2023

In 2023, when USAID's assistance to Ukraine reached its highest level ($16 billion), the bulk of aid was again given to governance organizations:

◼️ $14.6 billion was allocated to the government and civil society sector

◼️ Just over $36 million was allocated to health initiatives
