Ukrainian forces blow up KEY coal mine in eastern Ukraine

It was the largest coking coal mine under Kiev’s control in Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), the Donetsk People’s Republic, military expert Yan Gagin told Sputnik.

Ukrainian troops detonated the mine, owned by Metinvest company, solely to prevent it from being captured by Russian forces.

It was the only deposit of coking coal in Ukraine, Gagin said. The destruction threatens the existence of Ukraine's entire metallurgical industry.
