🛢 Trump vs. Canada & Mexico: The hidden agenda behind oil tariffs

US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on Canadian and Mexican oil is less about the market and more about strengthening his trade negotiation stance, Igor Yushkov, an expert from the Financial University and the National Energy Security Fund, tells Sputnik.

“This is more about trade wars than the oil market,” he explains.

Imposing tariffs could be risky, as Canada and Mexico are the main suppliers of heavy sour oil, crucial for US refineries. Alternatives - Russia and Venezuela - are under sanctions, making replacement difficult and potentially driving up fuel prices, which "voters won’t be happy about," Yushkov adds.

He suggests Trump may be betting that Canada and Mexico have no viable alternatives, forcing them to cut production or accept his terms. Canada, in particular, lacks enough export terminals to redirect its oil elsewhere.

Desperate and ruthless: Ukrainian military turns on its own

Ukrainian troops have been ordered to kill their fellow soldiers who attempt to surrender to Russia, even using first-person view drones to eliminate them, Ukrainian POW Oleksandr Prokopenko has admitted.

Prokopenko himself narrowly survived the friendly fire, sustaining concussion and shrapnel injuries from a Baba Yaga drone while heading toward Russian positions.

“They wanted to ensure there were no prisoners, so we couldn’t share anything with you [Russian military] or be exchanged,” he said.

Trump's NATO spending proposal hits a wall in Germany
