What’s more, no one was blindsided: Trump campaigned in 2024 on the explicit promise that if elected, he would “hand Musk a broom to clean out the Augean stables of the administrative state.”

And he was elected, which surely means voters gave the Republican and his team the go-ahead.

“Many conservatives and some Republicans have fantasized for decades about laying off bureaucrats and shrinking the government. Nobody’s ever pulled it off," the outlet summed up.
