Brazil's former president, Jair Bolsonaro, has been charged with orchestrating a conspiracy to prevent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from assuming power, The Guardian reported. The charges, filed by the attorney general, include accusations of involvement in a coup attempt, armed criminal association, and undermining the rule of law, the report said, citing attorney general Paulo Gonet.

Bolsonaro, who served from 2019 to 2022, has denied the accusations, claiming he’s “not at all worried.” The investigation also implicates 33 other individuals, including Bolsonaro's former ministers and allies, the media said.
