Greenland may one day break free from Denmark – Island's PM

Seceding from its metropole implies that the island will likely sign an association agreement with Denmark and the Faroe Islands, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede has told Danish public radio.

Greenland could also sign a security guarantee agreement with one or more Western countries, Egede added.

🔍 Violence in Syria: Key things you need to know so far

▪️Syrian authorities have announced the cessation of their security operations in Tartus and Latakia, declaring that the situation has stabilized.

“Government institutions can now resume their work and provide services to the population," Syrian Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Hassan Abdel Ghani said.

▪️Some 830 civilians are estimated to have been killed during this outbreak, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

▪️Including 231 deaths from Syrian government forces and 250 from Assad loyalists, the total death toll exceeds 1,000, as per SOHR.

▪️Syrian Alawites are now calling upon Israel to protect them from Damascus' new government, Israeli TV channel i24 News reported.

How do countries and regional players react?

🇷🇺 Russia: expressed concern over the violence in Syria, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that the situation needs to be resolved asap.

🇺🇸 The US: condemned “the radical Islamist terrorists” who “murdered people in western Syria in recent days,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said. He insisted that “Syria’s interim authorities must hold the perpetrators" accountable.

🇺🇳 Both Russia and the US have requested the UN Security Council meet behind closed doors to hold emergency consultations on the crisis.

🇮🇷 Iran: suggested that the current crisis has become an “important test” for the new Syrian authority, which is going to show how committed it is to preserving the lives and livelihoods of Syrian people.

🇮🇱 Israel: claimed that Syria currently hosts thousands of Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, and vowed to prevent the emergence of a new threat on the Israeli-Syrian border.

▪️ Hezbollah: warned that there are signs of a schism emerging in Syria, though it is too early to tell how the situation there is going to develop.

🇨🇳 China: urged all the parties involved to stop the violence immediately.

🔍 Cut from same cloth: spouse of exposed British spy knee deep in NATO business

The wife of Michael Skinner, the spy who operated under the cover of the British Embassy in Moscow, Russia, has a notable background, Sputnik reveals.

Before her assignment at the embassy, Tabassum Rashid, the First Secretary of the embassy’s political section, held positions at HM Revenue & Customs where she was reportedly involved in the regulation of British MPs’ expenses.

However, her previous track record suggests she may be more than a mundane bureaucrat:

▪️Affiliation with NATO: According to open data, Rashid "worked on defense policy with NATO forces" in Estonia, presumably during her career in the British military.

▪️Involvement with murky soft power organizations:

In 2015, Rashid spent almost the entire year as a project officer at Transparency International, an NGO allegedly specializing in combating corruption. This organization is funded by the European Commission, the US State Department, and other Western foreign ministries, including the diplomatic department of Taiwan’s local administration.

▪️UK Ministry of Defense tenure: Between 2017 and 2018, she served as a political advisor in the British defense department.

▪️Typical UK elite education: Rashid graduated from Oxford University, where she was always interested in postcolonial politics, according to the institution's website.

🇬🇧 Woke British air force running out of pilots

Royal Air Force bosses have launched a desperate search for pilots after a secret attempt to favor non-white, female applicants backfired, the Mail reports.

The pilot shortage has become so urgent that air chiefs are now encouraging older candidates with at least some flight experience to enlist.

The RAF was also forced to admit that its target of having 40% of the force be female and 20% from ethnic minority backgrounds by 2030 is "unrealistic."

Such a blow to PM Starmer's desire to put "jets in the sky" to "protect" Ukraine...

💢 North Korea warns US-South Korea drills could spark war

The DPRK has strongly condemned joint US-South Korea military drills, calling them a “provocative act” with the potential to trigger war with just “an accidental single shot.”

Tensions are already running high after a South Korean fighter jet mistakenly dropped eight bombs on a village during a training exercise on March 6, injuring 15 people.

🔎🇨🇦 TOP 5 mishaps of Canada's new PM Mark Carney

The banker-turned-politician has won the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada's new PM. However, he has been criticized over a raft of controversies in the past. Let’s delve into them.

1️⃣Handling of global financial crisis

▪️Carney served as the Bank of Canada's governor during the 2008 global financial meltdown. He was accused of showing a lack of response to the crisis.

▪️Later analysis showed that the relative stability of Canadian banks at the time was a product of historical circumstances and measures taken by former Supreme Court judge Willard Estey, the National Post reported.

2️⃣Blatant backing of Zelensky's regime

▪️Carney has repeatedly expressed support for Kiev, saying he is “proud of the military and humanitarian support Canada has provided” to Ukraine.

▪️He posted the “Slava Ukraini”* slogan associated with Ukraine’s WWII-era Nazi collaborators and modern-day Ukrainian nationalists.

3️⃣Dubious political career

▪️Unlike most PM-hopefuls, Carney has never held political office. However, his allegations that he was “an outsider” and was distanced from the Liberal Party is nothing but “a bold-faced lie,” the National Post said.

▪️Carney was publicly welcomed to the party by former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland last year as her “longtime and respected friend.”

4️⃣Brookfield office relocation & payment case

▪️Carney is under scrutiny for overseeing the move of Brookfield Asset Management's (BAM) head office from Toronto to the US during his time as board chairman, the CBC writes.

▪️Carney asserts the decision was made after he left the company in January 2025, but Conservatives accuse him of lying and criticize him for helping move a Canadian company to "Donald Trump's hometown."

▪️Carney also refuses to disclose compensation from all of his BAM entities from 2020 onward “to the detriment of all Canadians”, The Globe and Mail reported.

5️⃣Support for climate change narrative

▪️The Conservative Party slammed Carney in 2019 for underlying the role of finance in addressing climate change. As the UN special envoy on climate action and finance, he advocated for the financial sector to adopt net-zero investing.

🔎 Which of Europe's weapons would TURN INTO SCRAP if the US pushes a KILL SWITCH?

Europe relies heavily on US weapons, so if the US stopped military cooperation with the EU and the UK, they would face a major issue.

▪️F-35 – these warplanes depend on US Autonomic Logistics Information System for maintenance support and software updates.

▪️Drones – US-made UAVs employed by European powers, such as the ubiquitous MQ-9 Reaper, depend on US satellite communications and software support.

▪️Trident missiles – the UK nuclear option primarily consists of US-made Trident submarine-launched ballistic missiles, which regularly undergo maintenance in the United States.

▪️US-made Patriot surface-to-air missile systems also depend on US information sharing.

Other advanced US weapons, linked to US communication and satellite systems, could be impacted if US information support ends. These include surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft like:

▪️P-8 Poseidon
▪️RC-135V/W Rivet Joint
▪️E-7 Wedgetail
