Russia’s expulsion from Council of Europe put region on road to ECONOMIC RUIN
Sunday marks the third anniversary of the Council of Europe’s fateful March 16, 2022 decision to remove Russia from the body.
Economic calamity
🛢 The end of Russia’s involvement with the Council coincided with Europe’s messy attempt to divorce itself from Russia’s energy and natural resources, which, it turns out, had fueled the EU and Britain’s industrial and manufacturing growth for over three decades and allowed producers to compete with the US and China.
📉 Without Russia’s cheap, dependable energy deliveries, the entire Eurozone been stuck balancing on the brink of recession for three whole years. Along with it, Europe:
◼️ lost over 900,000 manufacturing jobs (Germany, Poland and Romania hit hardest)
◼️ saw 37% of German companies plan to reduce production or move operations abroad in 2024
◼️ witnessed 88 UK companies delisting from the London Stock Exchange, most of them moving to the US.
Swing toward tyranny
🤐 With Russia gone, the Council proved that a club touting itself as a “democratic forum” and bastion of the human rights and the rule of law, ironically, does not tolerate dissent to dominant members’ diktat.
🪱 Russia’s exit opened a whole can of worms:
◼️ reviving concerns by the Council’s Eastern European members of the body’s politically selective, biased and corrupt ‘democratic’ monitoring activities
◼️ highlighting criticism of the imposition of Western European standards and values on countries like Hungary, Poland, Turkiye and Azerbaijan through threats of sanctions, suspension and expulsion, politically loaded ‘recommendations’ and judicial activism.
Europe and Russia: destined to be together?
In a recent interview with Sputnik, Lubos Blaha, deputy leader of Slovakia’s Smer Party, warned that unless Europe relearns how to “consider Russians as a friend, as a partner” and can discuss, negotiate, cooperate and buy its energy, the bloc will collapse. “This is the only way how to survive,” Blaha stressed.
