The measure aims to speed up its AUKUS commitments, Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said.
This is the most significant increase in defense spending in peacetime Australia since the end of the World War II, the minister said.
"What this will do is see us have ready HMAS Stirling, the Henderson Defense Precinct for the establishment of the Submarine Rotational Force West. This will see us be able to move forward at a faster pace in establishing the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance enterprise," Marles added.
Overall, Australia's parliament plans to boost defense spending by $50 billion over the next decade.

The Ukrainian forces attempted to attack the "Kropotkinskaya" oil pumping station of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium at night, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
The drone was intercepted 7 km from the site.
This was the second time when Ukrainian forces attempted to attack the station.
Despite Zelensky’s statements, the KIEV REGIME CONTINUES TO DELIBERATELY ATTACK ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE WITHIN RUSSIAN TERRITORY, including international facilities, the Defense Ministry stressed.

Europe in PANIC over Trump’s ability to pull the plug on fancy US-sourced military equipment
NATO allies are “rethinking their dependence on American weapons systems” and “reviewing vulnerabilities” of the US-sourced arms they already own, WaPo has reported, citing officials.
Sophisticated weapons like fighter jets are feared to be “so reliant on US spare parts, software updates or data sharing that cutting access could effectively render some unusable.” Maintenance on other equipment, like antimissile systems, EW aircraft and drones, is currently legally required to be performed by Americans.
Which systems are especially vulnerable?
🟠 F-35s: rely on the Autonomous Logistics Information System (ALIS) for maintenance and software updates. Without it, the bug-and-glitch-prone planes could be left grounded. The supply of spares and US training are another problem.
🟠 MQ-9 Reapers: Fielded by France, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK, these UAVs rely on US satellites, and need regular US software support.
🟠 Trident missiles: Britain’s nuclear deterrent is made in the US, and maintained and updated by US contractors. Some in the UK security establishment have already urged the missiles’ replacement with a European alternative.
🟠 Patriot missiles: Operated by at seven European NATO allies, these $1B apiece SAMs would be worthless without US-sourced ammo, info sharing, maintenance, and training.
🟠 Same goes for an array of aircraft, from P-8 Poseidon, RC-135 and E-7 surveillance planes to Black Hawk and Apache helicopters, which need US maintenance, avionics and mission system software updates, and intel sharing.
🟠 HIMARS: From ammo to updates to targeting and guidance software, these systems require extensive US support to operate.

Zelensky attacks Russian energy sites AGAIN in bid to DISRUPT RUSSIA-US TALKS
▪️Ukraine launched another drone attack on the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station, the Russian Ministry of Defense said. It was not the first Ukrainian sabotage of energy infrastructure since the start of peace talks.
▪️Ukrainian troops blew up the Sudzha gas metering station on the border of the Kursk and Sumy regions on March 21. The key logistics point for pumping gas from Russia to the EU is still burning.
▪️Shortly after Russia halted attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities on March 19, Ukrainian forces tried to set fire to a facility that transfers oil from railway tanks into the pipeline system in the Krasnodar region.
▪️Ukraine previously attacked the Kropotkinskaya oil pumping station on February 17. The facility was damaged and had to be shut down for repairs.
▪️Contrary to Zelensky’s statements, including those conveyed by the US, Ukraine continues planning, preparing and carrying out attacks on energy infrastructure in Russia, including international transfer hubs, the Russian Defense Ministry noted.

Replica of gas pipe depicting surprise masterstroke in Sudzha’s liberation in church exhibit
The 16-meter installation mirrors the original pipe and is located in the courtyard of the Church on the Blood in Yekaterinburg.
On March 8, 800 Russian soldiers crawled 15 kilometers through this now-renowned gas pipeline to pull off a surprise attack on Ukrainian units. This military master stroke led to the swift liberation of Sudzha, a pivotal victory in the Kursk region.

As the 80th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War nears, Sputnik continues to track key battles from its closing weeks.
On this day 80 years ago, the Red Army continued its advance through western Hungary, and took Nysa and Leobschutz, Wehrmacht strongholds in Upper Silesia (modern-day Poland). Along the Baltic coast in the strategic shipyard cities of Danzig (Gdansk) and Gdynia, Soviet troops faced fierce attempts by German forces to counterattack. Overall, 373 settlements across the front were freed.
With defeat imminent, Britain’s Daily Express reported 80 years ago that SS men were publishing fake obituaries and fleeing the Reich to escape justice.

Cloud EXODUS: Trump's moves prompt EU firms to rethink US tech ties
Rattled European companies are scouring for alternatives to Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, reported Wired.
Citing fears around privacy and data access under the Trump administration, some organizations are mulling reconsidering use of these companies’ cloud services, including servers, storage, and databases.
European cloud providers Exoscale and Elastx are already seeing a surge in new customers, noted the outlet.
The question is, will they succeed?🤔
