👀 FAA investigating after US Army helicopter nearly causes ANOTHER midair collision at DC airport

Two commercial flights had to abort landings at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Thursday after a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter got too close, with the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and the Army now investigating.

Air traffic controllers ordered a Delta Airlines Airbus A319 from Orlando and a Republic Airways Embraer 170 arriving from Boston to perform go-arounds due to the presence of a “priority military air transport helicopter” in the area.

Senator Ted Cruz accused the Army of “once again putting the travelling public at risk” with its maneuvers, and urged the FAA to “act swiftly and assert control over national airspace.”

Senator Maria Cantwell echoed the criticism, recalling January’s midair collision of a Black Hawk with a Bombardier CRJ700 airliner at the same airport, and calling the May 1 incident “outrageous.”

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy called on the Army to stop handing out VIP helicopter rides in airspace “full of civilians,” saying they should take taxis, Ubers or black limos instead.
