♻️ UN countries to create treaty to fight plastic pollution

TThe UN Environment Assembly voted unanimously Wednesday at its meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, for a resolution “to end plastic pollution.” It sets the stage for international negotiations designed to produce a treaty by 2024.

After a week of debate, negotiators fashioned proposals for a treaty that would cover the full lifecycle of plastics, including production, design and disposal.

According to a recent study, the global plastic industry is valued at $522.6 billion. A conservative estimate suggests at least 11 million metric tons of plastic end up in the Earth’s oceans every year. The environmental group Greenpeace said the UN panel’s decision is a “big, bold step to end plastic pollution.”

And then there's former President Barack Obama, who managed to attract some 52 million viewers during his first address.

A US court has rejected an attempt by the New York Attorney General’s Office to dissolve the National Rifle Association, ruling that doing away with the gun-rights group would infringe on its members’ First Amendment rights.

“While we’re heartened that the judge dismissed the NRA’s attempts to thwart most of the claims in our case, we are disappointed that the judge ruled against the dissolution portion,” NY AG Letitia James said in a statement.

James’ office is weighing the next possible steps in the case.

💼 Google is calling some employees back to several US offices for 3 days a week starting April 4, with flexibility programs including so-called 'work from anywhere' weeks.

Google employees in the San Francisco Bay Area and "several other US locations" will return to the office for at least three days a week beginning April 4, according to a company memo sent Wednesday.

The company will transition to a hybrid model this month, but employees can request extra time. Google employees can also "explore flexible work options including 'work from anywhere' weeks" or a location change, the memo added.

Google has dropped its vaccine requirement for both onsite and remote workers, as the memo confirmed. Google employees who are "fully remote" aren't required to be vaccinated, but those who come into the office must be vaccinated unless the person has a specific accommodation — and those employees will be required to wear a mask and be regularly tested.
