‼️US Not Ruling Out Biden-Putin Meeting, But No Engagement Planned at Present - White House
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday did not rule out a potential in-person meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian Vladimir Putin in the future, but added that there are currently no plans for direct engagement between the two leaders.

🗣️"I can't make an assessment of that," Psaki said when asked if there is any situation where Biden would sit down with Putin in person again so long as Russian forces are engaged in the special operation in Ukraine. "Right now they're invading a sovereign country and continuing to escalate every day. We're never going to take diplomacy ever off the table. But again, knows that not the moment for that."

When asked why the United States does not rule out such a meeting, Psaki said, "We have discussions internally about what the best steps are to de-escalate" but now is not the moment to plan an engagement between the two leaders."

‼️US Blackmailing, Intimidating Various Countries Over Contacts With Russia - Moscow

Washington is blackmailing and intimidating various countries over contacts with Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

She noted that similar tactics had been previously tested by the United States in relation to Germany and the Nord Stream 2 project.

‼️There have been no plans to deploy NATO missiles to Ukraine - German Chancellor
NATO has never had any plans to deploy missiles to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.

"He [Russian President Vladimir Putin] had concerns formulated as NATO plans to deploy missiles to Ukraine that may target Moscow - nobody had such plans," Scholz told the ZDF broadcaster on late Thursday.

The chancellor further indicated that not admitting Georgia and Ukraine to the NATO bloc was the "right decision," and that "even now it was not on the agenda, and it continues to be so."

🚛 I-95 pileups involving 17 vehicles leave 3 dead in Central Florida

At least three people were killed in five separate crashes on a foggy stretch of a Florida highway with zero visibility early Thursday, authorities said.

Multiple wrecks involving at least 17 vehicles, including semi-trucks, shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 in Volusia County after troopers responded to Edgewater at about 1:30 a.m. Foggy conditions and smoke from a recent controlled burn in the area drastically reduced visibility in both directions on the highway.

🖋 Iowa GOP governor signs restrictive transgender sports bill

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Thursday signed into law a bill that prohibits transgender females from participating in girls high school sports and women’s college athletics, rejecting opposing arguments that she would harm vulnerable children to solve a nonexistent problem.

The Republican governor called the signing a celebration of victory for girls sports. Republican leaders made the bill effective immediately, and any transgender students playing sports will be required to stop immediately. It wasn’t clear how many students it would affect, but it’s believed to be no more than a handful in Iowa.

Iowa will join 10 other GOP-run states with such laws. Some have faced court challenges claiming violations of constitutional rights and federal nondiscrimination laws.

💧Fuel in water deepens Native Hawaiians’ distrust of military

The US Navy confirmed that petroleum from one of its fuel tank facilities had leaked into Pearl Harbor tap water. Many Native Hawaiians are not just concerned, they are hurt and offended.

Nearly 6,000 people, mostly those living in military housing at or near Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, became ill after petroleum-laced water came pouring out of their taps late 2021.

US Rep. Kaiali‘i Kahele, a combat pilot who serves as an officer in the Hawaii National Guard, has invoked the Hawaiian word hewa, which can mean sinful or wrong, to describe the Navy water contamination. He has also called it “crisis of astronomical proportions.”
