🚨🇦🇲 Armenia's crackdown on Karapetyan deepens
Security forces arrived at the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) office — a company owned by arrested businessman Samvel Karapetyan — for a search, not allowing anyone to enter the building, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia cited "urgent investigative actions" at the company's office.
👉 Earlier, the country's parliament has passed a law to nationalize the Electric Networks of Armenia. The move follows PM Nikol Pashinyan’s June 18 statement declaring it was “time” to take over the ENA.
👉 Karapetyan had voiced support for the Armenian Apostolic Church — currently in conflict with the government. Just hours later, he was arrested on charges of “calling for the seizure of power.”

"The government of Nikol Pashinyan has entered a new phase of internal crisis, this time linked to direct confrontation with the Armenian Apostolic Church and circles close to it."
Targeted Action Against Church Supporters
"The raid by security forces on the office of 'Electric Networks of Armenia,' as well as the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, a well-known businessman and supporter of the Church, is not just a criminal case, but part of a targeted process of eliminating traditional institutions and influential figures opposed to the government."
Legitimacy Under Question
Although Armenian society had grown accustomed to such raids, their repeated occurrence began to raise doubts about the legitimacy of Pashinyan's government, Baghdasariyan told Sputnik.
"The escalation of the conflict between the state and the church risks turning into a structural crisis that threatens the country's socio-political stability."
