🎙Host 'Stunned' Biden did not Mention Bloody Sunday in State of the Union: 'A Mistake'

Host Chuck Todd suggested Biden missed an opportunity to reflect on the brutality enacted on African-American protestors during the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965 as he addressed Ukraine's fight for democracy during his first State of the Union address.

"It was an easy kind of rhetorical move: Let's defend democracy abroad and secure democracy at home."

Biden also received criticism for glossing over domestic economic struggle
s, including soaring inflation, as well as for overlooking the crisis at America's southern border and for doubling down on green energy policies amid calls to ramp up American energy production amid Russia's special operation Ukraine. Others pointed out that while he spoke at length about the escalating conflict in Ukraine, he failed to mention other US foreign policy concerns.

🚍 DC area bracing for trucker convoy protests as nearly 1,000 vehicles hit Maryland town

Long lines of 18-wheelers
and other trucks crowded the roads of Hagerstown, Maryland early Saturday as the Washington, DC-area prepared for protests over COVID-19 mandates.

While other similar US trucker convoys have fizzled, this one started gaining steam Friday evening. Roughly 1,000 vehicles arriving from all directions converged on the Hagerstown Speedway, clogging traffic, the Washington Post reported.

As of 8 p.m., a two-mile-long line of cars and trucks could be seen stuck in traffic on Route 40, WUSA-9 TV reported.

Some truckers participating in the “People’s Convoy” said they planned to head to Interstate 495, known as the Capital Beltway, on Saturday. Others said they were awaiting instructions.

🇺🇦💰Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claims that nearly 20,000 foreign mercenaries are looking to fight alongside the rapidly-diminishing ranks of Ukraine’s crippled military.

A number of foreign fighters earlier jumped at the chance to help cobble together the so-called “International Legion” of mercenaries that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for, with recruits from the US, Canada, and Japan apparently jumping at the chance to fight for what some outlets have said is a $60,000/month check.

But just who are those foreign fighters? Read the full story on our website

🎯A spokesperson for Gov. Ron DeSantis Christina Pushaw believes Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill has been labeled wrong by liberals and should be "more accurately described as an Anti-Grooming Bill."

"The bill has nothing to do with LGBTQ people. You invented that angle when you falsely called it “Don’t say gay” despite the fact that the word “gay” isn’t in the bill. Now, why do you think it’s appropriate to teach 3-8-year-olds about sex?" Pushaw tweeted on Sunday.

The Republican-backed Parental Rights in Education bill states that "classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3." Parents could sue school districts for violations.

Florida's House of Representatives passed the bill on Thursday. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also signaled his support of the bill.

⛽️ Average gas prices top $4 per gallon for the first time since ‘08

According to AAA, the national average hit 4.009 cents on Sunday, just over 10 cents short of the $4.114 standard recorded in July 2008. Since Saturday, prices have jumped roughly 9 cents and 47 cents since Russia’s invasion began.

California had the highest average at $5.288 per gallon, and Missouri the lowest at $3.599. New York’s average was $4.207.

Lawmakers have called on the Biden administration to ban Russian gas and oil imports in response to the Ukraine invasion. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday that President Biden is “looking at options” — but only if it can be done without raising gas prices.

😷 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently loosened its mask guidance for most places, including schools and school buses. Here are the latest rules for the D.C. area.

Virginia lawmakers passed legislation making masking optional in schools effective March 1. Maryland officials followed late last month when a legislative committee approved the state education board’s decision to allow local school districts to decide their mask policies.

Within the metro area, D.C. Public Schools, along with the Montgomery and Prince George’s school systems, are continuing to require indoor masking for now.

The CDC revisions came as many school districts, including local districts, were already dropping masks mandates as parents pushed for a return to normalcy.

🎥 “The Batman” took in a massive $128.5 million at theaters in the United States and Canada over the weekend, demonstrating the staying power of one of Hollywood’s most overworked superheroes and marking an end — cinema owners hope — to studio experimentation with movie release patterns.

“This is an excellent opening,” said David A. Gross, a film consultant
who publishes a subnoscription newsletter on box office numbers.

“The Batman,” which cost an estimated $200 million to make, not including marketing costs, marks a return to exclusive theatrical distribution by Warner Bros., which spent the last year releasing films simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.
