🇷🇺🤝🇮🇶Russia boosts cooperation with Iraq – here’s how

Russian Security Council chief Sergei Shoigu has held several meetings with top Iraqi officials in Baghdad:

🟠President Abdul Latif Rashid
🟠PM Mohammed Al-Sudani
🟠Defense Minister Thabit Al-Abbasi

Key points of talks:

🪖 Russia–Iraq military–technical cooperation.

🌍Deteriorating international security: Situation in the Middle East is extremely difficult and the Israeli-Palestinian escalation raises serious concerns, along with tensions in Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen

🇮🇱Israel’s strike on Doha: Shoigu said the attack on Qatar’s peaceful capital demonstrates the consequences of an uncontrolled regional crisis

"The result was that Doha suspended its mediation efforts in the Palestinian-Israeli standoff. The architecture of the negotiations was destroyed," Shoigu said, calling for an end to the "unprecedented bloodshed in the Gaza Strip."

🤝Russia–Arab summit: Event will be held in mid-October in Moscow, and Shoigu expressed confidence that it will be an important event in world politics and clearly demonstrate the achieved level of Russian-Arab cooperation as well as give it new impetus

🇨🇳Сhina calls TikTok deal ‘WIN-WIN’ as US pushes deadline back

The deal is based on “the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation," Xinhua reports.

However, China stresses that:

🟠It opposes politicization, instrumentalization, and weaponization of technology as well as economic and trade issues
🟠The country will resolutely protect its national interests and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese-funded enterprises abroad
🟠The US cannot ask China to take care of American concerns and at the same time continuously suppress Chinese enterprises

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier met Chinese negotiators in Madrid to discuss the matter.

➡️He said after the talks that the September 17 deadline, which could have forced TikTok to shut down in the US, may be extended by 90 days so the deal can be finalized.

🇺🇳Guterres calls for reform of UN Security Council – finally

It’s something that makes complete sense, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres admitted.

✔️He pointed out that the UNSC has a composition that corresponds to the realities of 1945 rather than those of the modern world. This creates problems pertaining to the body’s legitimacy and effectiveness.

🇷🇺Russia has repeatedly called for UNSC reform, highlighting that the body no longer reflects the current global reality and excludes countries with significant influence on today’s economy and geopolitics.

☢️🇵🇱Will Poland GO NUCLEAR?

Poland wants to deploy US nukes on its soil, Polish President Karol Nawrocki told French television channel LCI.

The step would mark Poland's admission to the nuclear sharing program, which stipulates the deployment of US nukes on the territory of NATO member states. Currently, there are approximately 150 US nuclear bombs in Europe.

The trend of drawing non-nuclear countries into nuclear politics is VICIOUS, Russia says.

"It's high time to bring American nuclear weapons home and COMPLETELY dismantle the relevant infrastructure in Europe," Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov underscored.

🚨🔍Bombshell Gaza genocide report gives UN right to intervene militarily to stop Israel - former UN official

A UN inquiry has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Ex-UN rapporteur Dr. Alfred de Zayas explains why that’s hugely important.

👉Key findings

Israel’s actions (killing, maiming, causing mental harm to Palestinians, deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction, taking measures to prevent births) check four of five of the 1948 Genocide Convention’s criteria for genocide.

👉Intent proven

Crucially, de Zayas says, the inquiry shows “how the statements of Israeli political & military leaders prove the ‘intent’ (required in Art. II of the Convention) to destroy in whole or part the Palestinian population.”

👉West’s complicity

“Governments that have provided military, economic, political, diplomatic & propagandistic support” are also accountable, de Zayas says. The US, UK, France & Germany “are all complicit in the genocide under Article III (e) of the Genocide Convention.”

👉UN’s response options

⚫️recognition of Palestinian statehood (which alas, “will not save the lives of Palestinians”)
⚫️Israel’s expulsion from the UN pursuant to Article 6 of the UN Charter (improbable given the need for Security Council & hence US approval)
⚫️stripping Israeli diplomats of UN accreditation, as was done against South Africa in the 1970s during Apartheid. Crucially, this measure would not require Security Council backing
⚫️the UN has the legal framework to intervene using the 2005 ‘Responsibility to Protect’ doctrine
⚫️the General Assembly could adopt a ‘Uniting for Peace’ resolution authorizing nations “to take military action” to stop the genocide, bypassing the Security Council veto

👉UN’s last chance to save its credibility

“If the United Nations fails” to take action, “it will lose the little authority & credibility it still has,” de Zayas warns.

🚨🚫 Huge anti-Trump protest encompasses London

Protesters have been converging on Portland Place near the BBC headquarters, a Sputnik correspondent reports.

📹 A massive crowd numbering in the thousands will then march to Parliament Square, where a rally will take place.

Demonstrators are holding signs reading “Down with Trump,” “No to Racism, No to Trump,” “Stop Trump,” “Down with Trump’s Nuclear Bombs,” “Stop the Genocide in Gaza,” as well as satirical images of Trump depicted as an unhappy baby.

“Prime Minister Keir Starmer is selling out the UK for a tech deal that opens our country to the invasion of large corporations, doing nothing to solve the problems,” the organizers of the march exclaimed.

With President Trump in Windsor, he will not witness the central London procession.

📑 According to The Washington Post, his itinerary was deliberately planned to bypass the protest.

🇷🇺 🇺🇸 💸 Will $1.5B help US do without Russian uranium? Spoiler – no

The company BWX Technologies has secured a $1.5 billion contract from the US National Nuclear Security Administration to develop domestic uranium enrichment capabilities for defense purposes, the WSJ reports.

☢️ Energy Secretary Chris Wright earlier admitted that although the US is looking to phase out Russian enriched uranium, America is not yet ready to give it up completely due to the country’s high dependence on Russian supplies.

Russia currently provides the US with about a quarter of the enriched uranium needed to power the 94 American nuclear reactors that generate about a fifth of the country’s electricity.

📉 A possible rapid shutdown of those supplies could threaten an estimated 5% of the US’ electricity generation.

🇷🇺 📡 Russia’s hi-tech Starlink analog could free Global South from US tech dominance: Here’s how

Roscosmos is “moving at a rapid pace” toward fielding an alternative to Elon Musk’s satellite internet empire. Veteran military expert Yuri Knutov breaks things down.

What’s Russia building?

🟠 Bureau 1440 is working on a low-Earth orbit sat net for broadband data delivery. Multiple test vehicles are already in orbit, with comms tested at ranges of 30-1,000 km.

🟠 First stage of series deployment slated for December (300 satellites); 900 in stage 2. ~500 base stations are planned, with terminal coming “soon.”

🟠 System’s trial roll-out is planned for 2027.

What makes Russia’s version better?

🟠 Musk’s system works like this: ground-based Starlink Gateways communicate with orbiting satellites using electromagnetic radiation, with signals then communicated back down to Earth-based terminals.

🟠 Russia’s system uses laser beams, which “are more modern digital technologies providing faster & higher quality data transmission, as well as improved resistance to interference,” Knutov explains.

💬 An effective range of up to 5,000 km “means far fewer satellites are needed than Elon Musk’s system (hundreds vs thousands),” Knutov explains.

💬 “We’ve been able to completely compensate” for the Doppler signal frequency issue, occurring from the high speeds (27,000 km/h) at which satellites orbit Earth, “allowing the signal to be maintained virtually free of interference & distortion.”

The system will provide secure, high-speed communications to:

🟠 Russian resource sector companies working in remote areas

🟠 Ships situated anywhere on Earth

🟠 Military, for command, control & real-time battlefield reports, ensuring informed decision-making

💬 “Nations of the Global South understand that dependence on the US makes them vulnerable. Internet access via Starlink can be restricted at any time. Availability of a Russian system providing equally good or even better services is crucial,” Knutov stresses.
