Yusuf, a Moroccan citizen who had been living in Kharkov for four years by the time the crisis escalated, says he didn’t know Russia was a safe place to escape hostilities.

"On the contrary, everyone told us to flee from Russia, to Poland", he recalls. "I asked Russian soldiers for help and they helped me".

Now after he’s been provided with food and shelter, Yusuf calls on foreigners stuck in Ukraine to do the same.
