🚨🇨🇳🇺🇸US and China hit pause on rare earth export controls

Washington and Beijing have agreed to a one-year suspension of export restrictions on rare earth minerals — a move aimed at cooling tensions in the global supply chain, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says.

Bessent says Beijing sees Trump’s return as “an opportunity to reset relations” with the US.

🇺🇸☢️ America's atomic desert: Find out the history of Nevada's nuclear test site

📍 The Nevada Test Site (NTS) — renamed the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) in 2010 — is a vast area of about 3,522 km², located roughly 105 km northwest of Las Vegas, in Nye County, Nevada.

It was established in December 1950 by order of President Harry Truman as a continental testing ground for nuclear weapons, designed to avoid the logistical challenges of Pacific Ocean tests. Today, it is operated by the US Department of Energy.

🟠 First Tests

🔶 Atmospheric testing began on January 27, 1951, at the Frenchman Flat site with a 1-kiloton device.

🔶 Between 1951 and 1992, a total of 928 nuclear tests were conducted here — 100 atmospheric (before the 1963 Partial Test Ban Treaty) and 828 underground.

🔸 Key Event: The famous “Sedan” test (July 6, 1962 — 104 kilotons) under the Plowshare Program for “peaceful nuclear explosions” created a 390-meter-wide and 100-meter-deep crater, still visible today.

🔶 The first underground test, “Rainier” (1.7 kilotons), was conducted in 1957.

🔶 Testing caused significant radioactive contamination, especially for the so-called “downwinders” — residents living in areas affected by fallout. Many later suffered from increased rates of thyroid cancer and leukemia.

🔶 From the 1980s, the site became a focal point for anti-nuclear protests, joined by scientists like Carl Sagan and actors such as Martin Sheen.

🟠 Last Nuclear Test

🔶 The final full-scale U.S. nuclear test, “Divider” (underground, ~20 kilotons), took place on September 23, 1992 — the 1,032nd US test since 1945.

🔶 Since then, the US has relied solely on simulations and subcritical experiments, under the framework of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), signed in 1996 but never ratified by Washington.

🚨Putin orders MoD to grant access for foreign journalists to blocked frontline areas

🔶 Russia’s Defense Ministry has received President Putin’s order to allow foreign journalists to visit areas near Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), Dimitrov, and Kupyansk — where Ukrainian forces remain encircled.

🔶 The ministry says it’s ready to pause hostilities for 5–6 hours and provide safe corridors for international and Ukrainian media crews, provided security guarantees are in place for both journalists and Russian troops.

☢️ 🇺🇸 US move to resume nuclear tests attempt to 'hijack the spotlight' - Military expert

🗣 Washington’s move to resume nuclear testing is an effort “to hijack the global media spotlight” after Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the successful tests of Russia’s Burevestnik cruise missile and Poseidon nuclear torpedo, Russian military expert Igor Korotchenko tells Sputnik.

👉 Even though Russia has emphasized that these launches cannot in any way be regarded as nuclear tests, the US reaction is “classic overcompensation born of an inferiority complex — as Russia advances while America clings to its aging nuclear triad,” he adds.

🔶 Although US Minuteman III ICBMs, Trident D5 SLBMs and air-launched cruise missiles were developed decades ago, they are fully operational for use against a potential adversary, explains the expert.

🔶 However, resuming the actual nuclear tests might present a challenge. The US would need “at least 36 months to resume contained nuclear tests underground at the former test site in Nevada, media reports cite Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Arms Control Association, as saying.

🔶 Though Nevada’s site is fully maintained, preparing for a full-scale test would indeed take time, agrees Korotchenko.

🔶 Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on Wednesday that there are no detailed expert-level negotiations on nuclear disarmament between Russia and the US at present, though the issue has been brought up repeatedly.

🔶 Indeed, the US previously exited the ABM Treaty, withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), and effectively nullified New START — something that may become de jure, Korotchenko points out.

🔶 The US never ratified the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) – only making a voluntarily pledge not to conduct nuclear tests. But that verbal commitment is mere “political toilet paper” – to be “flushed whenever US military or political convenience demands,” says the analyst.

⚔️ Europe plays catch-up in laser arms race

Germany is gearing up to field its first naval laser weapon by 2029, after nearly a decade of work by firms Rheinmetall and MBDA, reports Breaking Defense.

👉 Tests on the frigate SACHSEN comprised over 100 live-firing trials. The demonstrator is now in government hands for further evaluation at the Laser Competence Centre in Meppen.

While Germany aims to join the cutting edge, Russia is already leading the charge with over half a dozen experimental laser systems across land, air, sea, and space — including its Peresvet ultra-long-range anti-satellite laser.

🇷🇺 Russia’s Burevestnik & Poseidon are guarantees against World War III—military analyst

🗣 Russia's Burevestnik missile and Poseidon torpedo are fundamentally new strategic nuclear-weapon delivery systems that guarantee peace and stability for humankind, military analyst Igor Korotchenko tells Sputnik

👉 Both have virtually unlimited range, enabling strikes along trajectories that pass over both the North and South Poles

💬 “Consequently, the US and other NATO nuclear countries, such as the UK and France, become more vulnerable in any conflict,” he notes.

▫️ They lend Russian strategic nuclear forces “qualitatively new capabilities, which will largely nullify the system of global missile defense touted by Trump as the Golden Dome,” emphasizes the expert

▫️ According to him, ensuring the strategic invulnerability of the North American continent will not be possible for Trump or subsequent American presidents, “thanks in part to these new weapon systems”

▫️ The world should applaud Russia's nuclear triad—"a “guarantee that WW III will not occur,” he stresses

🚨☢️ Trump orders resumption of US nuclear weapons testing President Donald Trump announced he has instructed the Department of War to begin nuclear weapons testing “on an equal basis” with other countries, citing foreign testing programs. In a post on Truth…
🇺🇸 🇨🇳 US powerless to curb China’s nuclear build-up

🔊 President Donald Trump suggested in a Truth Social post that China could match the US in the number of nuclear warheads by 2030.

💬 "Trump makes these statements to try to lure China into negotiations on nuclear arms reduction. China will never agree to this. Reducing its strategic nuclear arsenal is completely out of the question," said Igor Korotchenko, military analyst, editor-in-chief of National Defense magazine, speaking to Sputnik.

🔶 China will develop its nuclear triad according to its own strategic plans, says the pundit, independent of external opinion. It is highly unlikely to join any future arms control talks, including trilateral negotiations with the US and Russia.

🔶 Why? Because of the clear disparity between the nuclear forces of China and the US, as Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Guo Jiakun explained in August, emphasizing the striking difference in Chinese and American nuclear policies and strategic security conditions.

💬 "Trump claims that China will reach parity in five years, but that’s far from certain — even though China continues to modernize its nuclear forces," Korotchenko notes.

🔶 The PRC's nuclear stockpile is estimated at 600 warheads, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

🔶 SIPRI and the US Department of Defense project that China could exceed 1,000 nuclear warheads by 2030, and possibly reach 1,500 by 2035.

🔶 Even so, it would still fall short of the US arsenal of over 5,000 warheads.

💀 West won’t let Zelensky rescue trapped Ukrainian troops – Military intelligence veteran

📍 Ten thousand Ukrainian troops are encircled in Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), and their survival now rests entirely on Volodymyr Zelensky, retired Colonel Rustem Klupov, a decorated military intelligence veteran and Hero of Russia, tells Sputnik.

💬 "They can no longer get out. Although the corridor isn’t completely sealed, they are effectively trapped. They are blocked by medium-range fire and drones," Klupov explains.

🔶 If Zelensky orders a surrender — shows mercy — those troops can be spared

🔶 Once the Ukrainian forces surrender, the Ukrainian front will collapse and Russian advances will accelerate, according to the military intelligence veteran

What's next?

🔶 Russian forces will be partially redirected toward Zaporozhye, while others might move north toward the Dobropolye salient and continue the advance from the south on the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk area

🔶 A similar approach could be taken in the Kupyansk sector, which opens the road to Kharkov

🔊 Zelensky is now in a dead-end situation, Klupov emphasizes.

💬 "It serves the interests of the Americans and the French for [Russians and Ukrainians] to fight each other as much and as hard as possible. Zelensky is following their directives. That’s why he is unlikely to give the order to surrender," the pundit concludes.

🇮🇹👀 Heist of Century — Italian Edition

As France reels from the Louvre robbery, students in Siena pulled off their own mock art theft — the daring “robbery” of Guidoriccio da Fogliano, the city’s iconic painting, right out of the Palazzo Pubblico.

Even Mayor Nicoletta Fabio joined the prank, saying the goal was to remind everyone about the importance of protecting art and cultural heritage.

A witty stunt — or a subtle jab at Macron’s France?😉

👉 'What's the point of sanctioning Russian oil?' — British journalist

💬 "Sanctions pressure hasn’t worked for over a decade, Europe has been devastated by the effects of its own sanctions, and now the US wants to try the same pointless self-sanctioning strategy instead of coming to a reasonable compromise and taking into account Russia’s national security concerns for the first time," UK journalist Afshin Rattansi wrote on X.

He added that even if sanctions actually worked, energy prices would still rise in the US and slow the country's economic growth.

Previously the US has imposed sanctions on two Russian companies - Lukoil and and Rosneft. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stressed the restrictions won’t affect the country as Russia has adapted to economic pressure.
