📹: In a last effort to ditch LAPD officers, a suspect tried to flee on foot and eventually just hid behind a car.

“He's trying to hide but doing a very poor job of it”, a newscaster reporting from a helicopter chuckled.

But it was apparently good enough to evade the cops, who couldn’t spot the man until the very last moment.

US ends asylum restrictions for children traveling alone

Unaccompanied child migrants trying to enter the United States will no longer be denied a chance to seek asylum under new guidance announced by U.S. health authorities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in announcing the change late Friday night, said “that expulsion of unaccompanied noncitizen children is not warranted to protect the public health.”

Testing and other preventive measures allow children traveling alone to be released to sponsors in the United States, the CDC said. Sponsors are typically family or other close relatives.

Migrants have been expelled more than 1.6 million times under Title 42, named for a 1944 public health law. Biden has kept the order in place but exempted unaccompanied children during his first days in office.

Owner of Cog Railway proposes lodging on Mount Washington

The owner of a historic railway that runs up Mount Washington is proposing to build upscale accommodations and a restaurant near the summit of New Hampshire’s highest peak. Mount Washington Cog Railway owner Wayne Presby said the nearly $14 million project would station 18 rail cars at an elevation around 5,800 feet (1,670 meters) from mid May through mid October.

Mount Washington has been attracting more tourists in New Hampshire’s North Country since the loss of the Old Man of the Mountain, a granite profile and state symbol that crumbled in 2003. The mountain draws over 300,000 visitors a year.

The region, which has among the state’s lowest median income, is heavily reliant on tourism. The train brings 150,000 people each season up to the summit.

🛢 Oil, sanctions, jets: How Congress pushes Biden on Ukraine

At first, the White House resisted calls from Congress to ban Russian oil imports to the US, but then, it did just that.

The administration earlier hit the brakes on legislation that would have revoked Russia’s favored-nation trade status with the US, but then US President Joe Biden announced the move to remove Russia from the trade group on Friday. The administration persuaded senators to hold off on imposing Russian sanctions, before slapping crippling sanctions itself. It rejected efforts in Congress to stop the Nord Stream 2 energy pipeline, then led the allies in halting it.

More than 40 Republican senators signed onto a letter unsuccessfully demanding that Biden reverse course after the Pentagon rejected an offer from NATO-member Poland to transfer Soviet-era MiG fighter jets to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy also unsuccessfully pleaded with the US last weekend for NATO to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

🚙 Uber is raising rates for rides and UberEats orders, with a new fuel surcharge designed to offset skyrocketing gas prices

Your next Uber trip or UberEats order will soon cost a bit more. The extra fees will go into effect on March 16. Based on location, the surcharge for an Uber trip is either 45 or 55 cents, while for an UberEats order, it's either 35 or 45 cents.

The adjustment comes as gas prices have skyrocketed in recent days thanks to an oil market disruption and a ban by the US on imported Russian oil, liquefied natural gas, and coal.
